Radian Intro

The document outlines a lesson plan focused on understanding radians and their application in measuring angles and rotations. Activities include determining linear and angular speeds for figure skating jumps, sketching angles in standard position, and engaging in an 'Angle Races' game to reinforce concepts. Additionally, it provides guidelines for quiz retakes and emphasizes the importance of maintaining a clean workspace.

Linear vs. Angular Speed

Determine how far a figure skater rotates for each jump as
both a linear measurement and an angular measurement:
a) single axel, 1.5 revolutions
b) double axel, 2.5 revolutions
c) triple axel, 3.5 revolutions

Coterminal
Ms. Cardone is facing East and rotates a quarter turn
to the left.
Describe another way to rotate from facing East that
will result in you facing the same way as Ms. Cardone.

Sketch the Angles

Graph each angle in standard position
Degrees:
1. 180

2. 90

3. -45

Radians:

Angle Races aka Pi(e) Eating Contest

Find a partner. Get a handout, set of cards and protractor.
1) Each person chooses a card.
2) Draw an angle with that measure in standard position on
your circle (pie).
3) Choose a new card.
4) Add to the angle you have already drawn.
5) Determine the measure of this new angle (this angle is
coterminal to the sum of your angles)
Repeat steps 4) and 5) until someone eats the entire pie!

Objective: Make sense of problems. Use radians.
