History

Vernon Carver Rudolph founded Krispy Kreme in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina using a doughnut recipe he obtained from his uncle. Rudolph was determined to open his own doughnut shop after his uncle's previous doughnut business failed. In 1937, Rudolph began selling doughnuts locally and people were drawn to his store by the aromatic smells. Krispy Kreme grew over the decades and expanded internationally, introducing new products and services. However, growth slowed after Rudolph's death in 1973 until new ownership revived expansion. Krispy Kreme has since become a well-established global doughnut company with over 80 years in business.
