At the core of iAAP web application is a computerized clinical
decision support tool for licensed health care providers who treat
asthma patients. The iAAP uses the NIH EPR-3 Asthma
Guidelines (2007) to assess asthma patients' severity and control
level and to suggest patient-specific treatment plans and
Grails 1.1.1 (plugins: Stark Security 0.4.3,
Quartz 0.4.1), Groovy 1.6.3, JDK 1.6,
Tomcat 6, Jetty 6.1.14, MySQL 5,
HsqlDb1.8.0.5, Bitrock InstallBuilder
Development tools included: Grails,
Cobertura, NetBeans, Emacs, Hudson,
MacOSX and Windows XP
In addition to facilitating the rapid assessment and diagnosis of a patient's asthma, the application provides access to
educational materials for providers, patients and caregivers. The multi-lingual (English and Spanish) patient-specific
asthma action plans generated by the iAAP are supplemented with trigger control sheets and HIPAA /
FERPA-compliant Consent-to-Share- Information documents for school health offices.
System components include the core iAAP web application, electronic health record (EHR) and electronic prescription
(eRx) integration modules, the NIH EPR-3 reference data synchronizer, an installer for the desktop version, and the back
end database.
