RDS-PP
A designation system used to structure information on OPEX, plans
and documentation for Wind Power Plants, both for owner, manufacturer and
operator.
EWEA OFFSHORE 2011
Subject: European standard with naming structure for components in Wind Turbines
By: Ulrik Brandt, Operational Excellence, DONG Energy
Date: 2011-11-28
Agenda and purpose of this presentation
Explain the fundamentals of RDS-PP
Show real life examples of the use of RDS-PP in DONG Energy
and the potential synergies with a supplier
Explain our involvement in a cooperation covering the value chain
Fundamentals
How was RDS-PP created?
DONG Energy power plants uses KKS = Kraftwerk - Kennzeichen System to
define complete parts code structures
KKS is an agreed standard among many Power Plants hosted by
DONG Energy internally created VKS based on KKS in order to create a
standard for Wind Turbines
Next generation KKS named RDS-PP was created including Wind Turbines
RDS-PP is an agreed standard in most of the Wind Turbine industry

With the designation system, you have a structure to attach information such as
documentation, maintenance plans and OPEX values
RDS-PP is a cooperation between all parties in the value chain

Fundamentals
Benefits of RDS-PP?
Provides a solid foundation for defining complete parts' code structures
Enables statistical analysis
Enables strong link between component and documentation
Supports expectations for general cost savings due to a much more controllable
overview
FUTURE
Perfects accuracy in communication important regarding QHSE

Location code
Describes the wind farm and expansion phase.
Functional codes
F0 describes the overall system code - for example a turbine in a wind farm or other systems/installations eg.
Substations, meteorology masts etc.
F1 describes a functional system on a given technical location in the wind turbine
F2 describes a functional sub-system on a given technical location in the wind turbine
Product codes
P1 to P2 (and P3) provide a product definition indicating a solution to a functional need according
to relevant number of levels

Implementation costs
There has not been any system cost in implementation of RDS-PP since we have
used KKS and VKS in the past. All systems supports KKS and VKS from the use
in Power Plants.
We have had to adjust SAP and our documents handling system so RDS-PP
could be supported but the cost have been minor.
The biggest cost has been the numbering of the different type of Wind Turbines.
Therefore the forum "RDS-PP Nordic group" is working on standardising the
codes across owners, manufacturers and operators on the market.
