It was said that this place is a memorable one considering its history where they got the term

several days the church maid found out that the spear went missing .People look for it right away but
they can't find it anywhere. At that time ,in a place near the sea, a child shouted "ang sibat ni San
Sebastian nalaglag!".

Residents was shocked and run where the spear was found .When they saw the spear, they all
shouted "Ang Kinalaglagan ! Ang Kinalaglagan !" . "It was the place where the spear of the beloved Saint
falls down!",people shouted. They all kneel down and begin praying to the lord.

residents gathered together in behalf of the 7 ward (purok).

Since the barangay is very near the sea most of them are fisherman, others are making it a part
time since they just go fishing every night. Some also chose to have a stable job like being a sewer,
soldier and OFW. As you all know, there's a lot of newly launch sewing company and small sewing
business which people grab right away because it's near their homes. There are also a lot of soldiers and
aspiring one and due to their state of living others chose the job overseas in exchange with a big
payment.

II. Cultural Description

Residents of Barangay Kinalaglagan is like the other typical barangay, family, and individual out
there. People living peacefully, facing every days struggle and starts their day with a smile.

When morning comes even if it's still dark they already start cleaning their surroundings.
Sweeping here while conversating. Cooking there while sipping their black coffee. People has a way of
making things easy yet productive. There is this simplicity with their doings that has mostly positive
impact

People tends to believe with a lot of beliefs. The residents of Kinalaglagan, most of them follows
every beliefs as said by the elders. Even the very simple one because people here don't want to take the
risk. Saying nothing will change at least they've tried. Following those makes people more comfortable,
living the day without regret. For example, these days, holy week a lot of belief are being followed. That
avoid being noisy, avoid eating meat, theres a lot of it that elders really shout of their relatives or
grandchildren are trying to do it.

They also participate actively in the barangay programs like when the Fiesta is nearly
approaching. People join to the activities such as bingo(a fund raising event) ,Seminars (which teaching
their attendees some business ideas) , Pageants (which really supported virtually and physically ) ,
Parade of the Virgin Mary by land and water (people first do the parade on land lead by our Lady of
Miraculous Medal along with prayers. They walk around the entire barangay then followed by the boat
parade) , and boat racing (participated by the boat owners racing around the entire place governs by
Kinalaglagan.

There is also the funfair which opens every March up to June since the fiesta is celebrated June
5th. People are having fun every night, as long as there's people it will stay alive. It offers a lot of games
and of course foods. Most of the time it was filled with teenagers and some adults hoping to have the
fortune and go home luckily.

Holidays, Christmas, New Year, and other celebrations are simply. There is the common foods
serve such as spaghetti, pancit , of course cake and ice cream. In every occasion it's a must but also it
depends on the kind of event. Videoke and liquor are always present as it gives life to the event and to
be said that somethings up there. It put enjoyment to their visitors as they sing along. In short, holidays,
and celebrations serves as the stress free and problem free day of the residents.

The important dates of our lord are done really well because first of all Barangay Kinalaglagan
was named after a happening that has to do with Saint San Sebastian. One of that event is Mama Mary's
birthday wherein a lot of people gather round and join the brigade or parade around the Taal Lake.
Some of them are from outside Batangas. The Holy Week which people provide activities such as singing
the book of passion in every house and letting a saint stay in a house per day.

People prioritize first their family, friends and people around them , then their surroundings if
it's clean or in a mess .Then they will just think of their environment when someone take the lead and a
lot of persuasion is presented or said to them . Some easily cooperate because there's just nothing to
do. Also others join because they really care to their environment. Like these day, the lake's seashore is
filled with sea moss and since it's holy week, some people start removing the sea moss as the children
for sure will swim there. So people usually prioritize environment the least.

Those are the things people usually do with their everyday life. These affect their behavior
towards their environment .By being happy doing what they want, they are willing to waste. The trashes
are either being burn or throw in the lake. It was like as long as they are happy and satisfied they will
continue to harm something. Environment was set aside and you will see people cleaning it is rare
unless organizations like 4p's do so. Their behavior depends on their mood and if they were tasked to
clean it. As their barangay councilor said, people are lazy, enough explanation for the lake's case. Those
celebrations provide joy but at some point being abused.

They always provide time for our lord and our environment is along with it. Residents conduct
parade in the sea to thank the lake for all the blessings. Those activities are done with the help of our
environment. People always use our environment so maybe they are aware of what's up to these days
especially about the lake.

III. Environmental Condition

Sea Moss (Lumot) this Environmental issue is one of the problem in Barangay Kinalaglagan
Mataasnakahoy, Batangas.
Mosses are Bryophytes, which
are non-vascular plants. They
apparently evolved from liverworts:
evidence from mitochondrial DNA
suggests that this is the stem group
from which mosses, hornworts and all
other land plants evolved.

We interview Ms. Loraine T.

Orense, President of Kapisanan ng
Barangay and one of the resident in
Barangay Kinalaglagan
Mataasnakahoy, Batangas. We asked
questions about the major problem of barangay like Sea Moss. We also asked her on what they can do
to protect and clean our sea, she answered As the president of the Kapisanan ng Barangay Kinalaglagan,
with the Sangguniang Barangay they are conducting programs to protect and maintain the cleanliness of
the lake such as simply implementing the Clean and Green and Coastal Clean-up . This Program not
only support the cleanliness and orderliness of the barangay but also aim to protect the lake.

As I observed they can't clean it because first of all

people are lazy and when they clean it, then the winds
path came in the side they just clean, the sea moss will
return .So the most appropriate thing to do here is to
have the cooperation and help of the people also the
courage . Fishermen decreases and find a more stable
job like sewing moreover people just didnt notice it but
our lake is already polluted unlike Laguna Lake wherein
you can really see that it's polluted. In fact, our lake
before was very clean, you can see fishes swimming even in the shallow water unlike nowadays fishes
were hard to catch. The Sea moss spreads from the deep water so its really hard to put off .In real life,
the only one that can really clean the lake is typhoons , like typhoon Yolanda and Glenda after passing
by you can really see the cleanliness of the lake .
Garbages and moss's wiped out even the sand was
really fine. Ber months, December up to February
its also clean. The problem is that its very cold.
Boating this season is very hard because mosses
entangled to the oar and rotor blade of the boat
.You have to use "Pikeng" or leaning the oar under
water to bring the boat at the deep side where
there is no sea moss.
When it comes to the
core messages, it can be
based on "Everything is
connected to everything else"
because through the years
residents of barangay
Kinalaglagan and the Lake
already build the rhythm and
cooperation with each other.
They both benefit with each
other. "Everything must go
somewhere" because as we
walk by the seashore we found out that garbages are being burn beside the sea so , when it waves the
trashes join to the waves and that's why moss continue to spread .Like in the case of Boracay ,moss's
spreads fast because the water is dirty.

IV. Synthesis
So, based on our documentation, sea moss is the problem in this barangay as it covers the lake's
side. Though it is seasonal, people has to do about it. We can't deny that fact, as we all know sea moss
spreads because the water is getting dirty proven by the garbages thrown in there. People are aware of
it because they know with their selves how did the lake end up like this. Though throwing anything at
the lake is prohibited, there is also some stubborn people who keep on doing it secretly or even vulgarly.
People is lazy that's the second reason the lake became like this. Instead of cleaning it right away when
the sea moss is not spreading that fast, they chose to just sit back, relax, and stare to the lake. I,
together with my groupmates conclude that it can be classified as continuum, the Lake and People,
because continuum is compose of two different things but can be together. Lake needs people and
people need Lake. Lake needs people to protect, clean and have fun with it. We just didn't notice it
because we're busy with other things. Lake needs people from people, this means that it needs people
with initiative, care, cooperation and approach the lake voluntarily from the people who keep on ruining
its beauty. People need Lake considering that some residents make a living by fishing here .Others chose
to take its path to go somewhere or visit their relatives in the front island. The water is often used to a
lot of things especially when there's power interruption. It seduces tourists with its beautiful scenery.
The lake functions a lot people just can't appreciate it, maybe they are, but eventually they just set it
aside. It's definitely continuum because there is the connection and harmony between the two.

We use System Model of Human Ecology because Human Social System and the Ecosystem have
interconnections wherein energy, materials, and information are being exchanged .People and the lake
have interconnections in a way that they are communicating. For example, people already knew if it is
dangerous to use the boat just by seeing the wave of the water. They are connecting by signs.
V. Recommendation:
When we go to Brgy. Kinalaglagan, we never expect that is the situation of the lake. Theres full
of moss and its look like very neglected. According to Mr. Romeo Dimayuga, one of the councilor of that
barangay, during the day when they are not industrialized, the lake was in its former beauty but when
the fishponds gets bigger, the water becomes dirty, polluted and, moss begun spreading and its
because of the food of the fish. One of my groupmates feel depressed when she saw the lakes situation.

We strongly recommend that the barangay should provide a "day of cleanliness wherein
everyone or every house should have a representative that will join in the cleaning project. Not just in
the lake but in the whole barangay. That program must be implemented weekly or monthly if it can't be
done in one cleaning. Also, if the government can't provide the budget for the lake or other projects and
problems in the barangay, they should find other way to solve it by solicitation, sponsor, or fund raising
event. Don't ever let it be like that and let other do it for you. We will also help to persuade the
residents and make them understand the real situation of the barangay or lake.

Convergence Model of Communication

In using the Convergence Model of Communication. We, and the barangay officials will
persuade and let people know the said project by posting notices and messages in the places where
people often go, giving letters to each houses for a more formal and respectful approach receive, read
and spread by the residents then they will surely speak their feedback which the barangay will take as a
response and sign to start the "a day of cleanliness" project.
