Internet Slang
The Internet can be a confusing place. The English people use there
has strange differences from the English you learn at school. The
language of the Internet is changing the way we use English in real
life too. Some think this change is for the worse, others like it and
use it themselves, but we certainly cant just handwave it and act
like its not there.

Here is some help for you to better understand the strange words
that you can find on the Internet.

A lot of Internet words are composed of the initials of other words,

e.g.: LOL = Laughing Out Loud
Other words have numbers in them. You can understand them
more easily if you read them out loud. 4ever = four ever =
forever.
The same is the case with some other words, where they use
letters of the alphabet in place of words. You need to know the
pronunciation of the letters well to understand them, e.g.: cya =
see ya = see you.

Some words can be short and easier to understand, others are more
specific and the message can be more difficult to get. But the more
words you learn, the better you will understand the new ones you
will find in the future.

Try to match the Internet slang words with their meaning below and
lets see how well you understand them.

No problem - B4N - bye for now

forever - ASAP - as soon as possible
Are you there? - NP - no problem
Best friend/boyfriend - CUL8R - see you later
Be right back - 4ever - forever
See you - AFK - away from keyboard
In my opinion - RU there? - are you there?
Bye for now - BF - best friend/boyfriend
See you later - brb - be right back
As soon as possible - g2g - got to go
Away from keyboard- cya - see you
Got to go - IMO - in my opinion
