With reference to the above rnentioned subject and further to our previous letter ref. no.
TWTWS/1111412A16 dated A8912016 (copy is enclosed) ple.ase be informed that we
have noted a number of flushing and disinfection requests on newly laid pipelines wherein
the source of flushing water are from water tankers-
Please take note that this is not the correct method of flushing based on nternational and,
KM standards (ref: ANSI/AWWA C651-05 and Water Quality Requirement & Conditions
For Flushing & Disinfecting Water Transmission & Distribution Pipelines) lsince the
minimum flushing velocity (0.76 m/s) and the required continuity of flow, could not be
attained through the tanker method.
Moreover, we are now facing serious problems of high turbidity in some parts of the
distribution network due to such incorrect practiGss. ::.,.
ln this regard, we strongly advice to discontinue this substandard practice of flushing new
pipelines using water tnkers as it is not an efficient method for flushing.

With reference to the above mentioned subject, please find enclosed reised Vatve nx
Standard drawing no. NDS-SD-230 Rev.01 showing the revision for the Standaid Drawing
of Valve Boxes that should be implmented for 300mm dia. and smaller pipelines under
KM, Ashghaland other Non-KM Projects.
Basically this new design will require less space to construct on the allocated watr
corridors which were generally reduced as per the 2A14 MMUP Typicail Utilities
reservation.
