1. Define and differentiate the following Personality Theories


Before defining and differentiating the following theories, let us define what a
personality is first. A personality is merely and generally defined as being made up of
characteristic sequencing that are consisted of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that
makes a person unique.

a) Psychoanalytic
In psychology, the psychoanalytic (also called as the psychodynamic theory) is a
perspective that explains personalities in circumstances when conscious and
unconscious efforts are seen such as desires and beliefs. The Psychoanalytic
Theory was formulated by Sigmund Freud through his concept that a personality
is consisted of the Id which is a factor that is responsible for the instincts and
pleasure-seeking personality of an individual. He believed that as we are born
into the world, the Id plays a very crucial part because it motivates us to obtain
our basic needs to be satisfied. For a child is hungry and meaning his Id wants
food; this causes him to cry until his need is satisfied. The Id is said to be
inconsiderate of other circumstances - all it cares about is its own satisfaction.

Second is the Superego which is an attempt to obey the rules given by higher
authority such as parents and the society. Third is Ego (that intercedes amongst
them in accord to the demands of reality. These factors that we experience from
childhood is one way that can fully mold your personality as time goes by. These
theories are related with psychoanalysis, which is a type of therapy that attempts
to divulge unconscious thoughts and desires
