Statistics Mean in Group Data and Ungrouped Data

To calculate the mean of grouped data, one finds the midpoint of each interval, multiplies it by the frequency, sums the products, and divides by the total number of values. For ungrouped data, one simply sums the values and divides by the total number. To find the standard deviation of ungrouped data, one calculates the difference between each score and the mean, squares it, sums the squares, divides the sum by n-1, and takes the square root. For grouped data, one finds the deviation of each midpoint from the mean, squares it, and sums before substituting into the formula. Variance is the square of the standard deviation and is calculated similarly for grouped and ungrouped data, but using the variance

Mean in group data and ungrouped data

To calculate the mean of grouped data, the first step is to determine the midpoint (also called
a class mark) of each interval, or class. These midpoints must then be multiplied by the
frequencies of the corresponding classes. The sum of the products divided by the total
number of values will be the value of the mean while the mean of the ungrouped data can be
found by finding by sum of the given values and dividing it by total number of values.
Difference of standard deviation in group data and ungrouped data
To calculate the standard deviation in ungrouped data, calculate the difference between each
score and the mean. Square the difference between each score and the mean. Add up all the
squares of the difference between each score and the mean. Divide the obtained sum by n – 1
and extract the positive square root of the obtained quotient.
While for grouped data, calculate the mean. Get the deviations by finding the difference of each
midpoint from the mean. Square the deviations and find its summation. Substitute in the formula.
Difference of variance in grouped data and ungrouped data
VARIANCE is the square of the standard deviation.

To calculate the variance for ungrouped data, find the Mean. Calculate the difference
between each score and the mean. Square the difference between each score and the
mean.Add up all the squares of the difference between each score and the mean.Divide the
obtained sum by n – 1.
While for grouped data, calculate the mean. Get the deviations by finding the difference of each
midpoint from the mean. Square the deviations and find its summation. Substitute in the variance
formula.
