Electrical Design Analysis (Oppo Ayale Feliz) ) Dec. 21,2017

This document provides calculations for the proposed OPPO Mobile store located at Ayala Mall Feliz, Marikina-Infanta. It includes calculations for load, short circuit current, fault current, service equipment rating, service entrance conductors, and voltage drop. The main conclusions are that a 40A, 2-pole molded case circuit breaker should be used along with 2- #8 THHN wires and 1- #5.5 THHN ground wire in 25mm IMC conduit based on a total calculated load of 7,795VA. The calculated short circuit current is 3.84kA and voltage drop is within acceptable limits.

USE: #2-8.0mm sq.THHN, 1-5.5 mm sq. THHN (G) Line in 25mm Dia. IMC
Main Breaker: 40 AT, 2P, 230 Volts, 10 KAIC
SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT CALCULATIONS:

Calculating short circuit current during system upgrade and design are life-safety in order to
protect personnel and equipment. It is required to check or select the equipment rating.Hand
calculations can be used for small system. Engineering software is a necessity for large system.
From Electrical Plan
Total Current= 21.52 amperes
KVA Xformer= 21.52 x 230 =4.95 kva say 50kva

USE: #2-8.0mm sq. THHN, 1-5.5 mm sq. THHN (G) Line in 25mm Dia. IMC
Main Breaker: 40AT / 60 AF, 2P, 230 Volts, 10KAIC

FAULT CURRENT CALCULATION ANALYSIS:

USING PER UNIT IMPEDANCE METHOD:

GIVEN: 1. AVAILABLE UTILITY SHORT CIRCUIT CAPACITY IS 1000MVA
2. SELECTED BASE KVA: 100 KVA X’FORMER WITH 25% IMPEDANCE
WHERE LOAD CENTER IS CONNECTED.

SINGLE LINE DIAGRAM:

COMPUTE FOR UTILIY PER UNIT IMPEDANCE puZs
PuZs = KVA BASE = 100 = 0.0001pu
UTILITY SC KVA 1000000
COMPUTE FOR X’FORMER PER UNIT IMPEDANCE puZt
PuZt = X’FORMER IMPEDANCE = 2.5 = 0.025pu

COMPUTE FOR WIRE IMPEDANCE:
FROM STANDARD ELECTRICAL HANDBOOK:
TABLE FOR COPPER WIRE AND CABLE ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

NO.4 AWG WIRE (8.0 mm² WIRE)

R= 1.28 OHMS/MILE
XL=0.628 OHMS/MILE
XC=0.1419 OHMS/MILE
Z = √R² + (XL-XC) ²
= √2.41² + (0.628 – 0.1419) ²
= 2.4585 OHMS/MILE

CONVERSION:
Z= 2.4585 OHMS x 1MILE x 40METERS
MILE 1600
= 0.0615 OHMS

COMPUTE FOR PER UNIT IMPEDANCE FOR FEEDER puZw

PuZw = IMPEDANCE IN OHMS x KVA BASE
KV² 1000
= 0.0615 x 100 = 0.1163pu
0.23² 1000

SIMPLIFIED DIAGRAM:

Zs = 0.0001

Zt= 0.025

Zw= 0.1163
Fault

puZT= puZs + puZt + puZw

= 0.0001 + 0.025 + 0.1163
= 0.1414pu
Isc(sym) = 1 x KVA BASE = 1 x 100000
puZt 230 V 0.1414 230

Service Equipment:

(a) Maximum rating / setting of protective device

Branch circuit short – circuit ground fault protective devices

(1) Non-time delay fuse.
[1,015 VA + 3,000 VA + 300% (2,500 VA) + 1,000 VA + 280 VA +
2,500 VA / 230 V

For Main Circuit Breaker:
Note: (consider conductor and over current protection for ampere rating)

Voltage Drop Calculations:

Voltage Drop = √R² + X²
Where:
I = Line Current in Amperes
R = Line AC Resistance, Ohms
X = Line Reactance at 60 HZ, Ohms
From Handbook:
R (1-PH) = 0.02555 Ohm/305M (75º C) 32mm² Cable in steel conduit
= 1.196 Ohm/305M (75º C) 30.0mm² Cable in steel conduit

X (1-PH) = 0.0314 Ohm/305M (75º C) 32mm² Cable in steel conduit

= 0.04414 Ohm/305M (75º C) 30.0mm² Cable in steel conduit
VD = 27.11 A √0.02555² + 0.0314² x 20.0 M / 30.0 M
VD = 27.11 A (0.03277 OHMS)
VOLTAGE DROP = 0.88 VOLTS

Based on IEEE STD 241-1990

Voltage Drop + 0.38% based on IEEE Std. (REMARKS PASSED)

The Philippine Electrical Code have specified the allowable voltage drop at the maximum load
current, 5% for feeders and 3% for branch circuits
