Order of Sharps:

Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle.

Determining a major key: Sharps

Go to the last sharp, then go up one note:

that names the key.

Order of Flats:

Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles’ Father.

Determining a major key: Flats

Look at the second to last flat: that names the key.

Exceptions:

When there is one flat, it is the key of F.
