Aircraft Data – Teachers’ Lesson Plan
Task: Internet-based reading and speaking activity
Time: 1 hour
Internet research
1 Task set-up (5 mins). Refer to Worksheet 1. Divide the class into two groups.
Explain to the students that they are going to use a website to collect
information about two different passenger aircraft. Give each student in Group
A the Student A section of the Worksheet and each in Group B the Student B
section.
2 Data gathering (15 mins). Refer students to the web addresses provided for
their aircraft. Group A students read a web page about the Boeing 757 and
Group B about the Tupelev Tu-154. Students should fill in the relevant
sections of the table.
3 Controlled language practice 1 (20 mins). Ask the students to prepare
questions to ask their partner in order to complete the table: (e.g. What type of
aircraft is the Tupolev Tu-154? How wide is its wingspan?). Monitor and assist
students with question formation, etc.
4 Controlled language practice 2 (5-10 mins). Elicit suggested questions to
the board, correct and drill as needed.
5 Communication practice (5-10 mins). Pair students from Groups A & B to
ask and answer questions about each aircraft and to complete the table.
Monitor and note language errors for remedial feedback.
