CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the method used, research environment, research

instrument, validating the instrument, scoring procedure, data gathering

procedure and statistical treatment which were employed to gather the data and

information considered in the study.

Research Method

This study utilized the Qualitative or Thematic Analysis was used in this

study. Qualitative or Thematic Analysis is used to focus on identifying,

analyzing and reporting patterns within the relationship between the independent

and dependent variables of the study. Thematic analysisis one of the most

common forms of analysis in qualitative research. It emphasizes pin pointing,

examining, and recording patterns (or “themes”) within the data. Themes are

patterns across data sets that are important to the description of a phenomenon

and are associated to a specific research question.

Research Environment

Jimenez Bethel Institute is a private, non-sectarian, co-educational

institution of higher education in Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, Philippines.

This institution adopted K-12 curriculum. They offered 3 different strands which

are the following: Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics


(STEM), Accountancy and Business Management (ABM), Humanities and

Social Sciences (HUMMS).

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are the Grade 11 STEM Students from

Jimenez Bethel Institute for the first and second semester of the school year

2018-2019.

Research Instruments

The researchers used guide questions in gathering data. Guide question

is a way to collect data as well as to gain knowledge from individuals. This type

of guide question gives the researcher opportunities to probe for views and

opinions of the interviewee. This instrument was referred to a panel of research

experts for content validation.

Data Gathering Procedure

With the recommendation of their research adviser, statistician and

instructor, the researchers initially requested an endorsement from the subject

adviser to gather the needed data. The respondents were given scheduled time

for the interview, after which this will be retrieve. The data will be recorded,

tallied, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted.

Statistical Treatment

Statistical method is a technique of collecting, summarizing, analyzing,

and interpreting variable numerical data. Exact statistical method used by

researchers aided them in summarizing and analyzing the data gathered.
