1. What is the missing number in this sequence? 2, 5, 9,


14, 20, ______?
Answer/Solution: 2, 5, 9, 14, 20, 27

Skip Counting: 3 4 5 6 7
Therefore, 27 is the next number after 20.

2. What is the next group of numbers in the following:


{1,2} {2,3,4} {4,5,6,7} {7,8,9,10,11}...?
Answer/Solution:
Use number pattern wherein every last digit will
use in the next set of numbers and add 1 number in
each. Therefore, the next group of numbers are
{11,12,13,14,15,16}

3. On the first day, one tourist came to visit the park. If on


each succeeding day, a group of tourists with 2 more
persons than the previous group visits, how many
tourists will visit the park on the 5th day?
Answer/Solution:
We will add 2 more person than the previous
group visits therefore:
1st day = 1 tourist
2nd day = 1 + 2 = 3 tourists
3rd day = 3 + 2 = 5 tourists
4th day = 5 + 2 = 7 tourists
5th day = 7 + 2 = 9 tourists
So, there are 9 tourists that will visit the park on the 5th
day.
4. What is the smallest digit that can be placed on the
blank to make the following true? 478___68 < 479 563
Answer/Solution:
One(1) is the smallest digit that we can placed on
the blank.

5. What is the value of 450÷9-2(37 + 13 – 30)?


Answer/Solution:
450÷9 – 2(37+13-30)
450÷9 – 2(50-30)
450÷9 – 2(20)
450÷9 – 40
50–40

6. A popsicle stick is 6 cm long. How many popsicles sticks
are there in a 54-cm string?
Answer/Solution:
54 ÷ 6 = 9 popsicles sticks

7. In the parking lot, there is at least one car and at least


one motorcycle. If there are 54 wheels in all, what is the
most number of cars that can be in the parking lot?
Answer/Solution:
one car = 4 wheels
one motorcycle = 2 wheels
Therefore, 54 – 2(number of wheels of one motorcycle)
is equal to 52 and 52 ÷ 4 (number of wheels of one car)
is equal to 13.
So, the most number of cars that can be in the parking
lot is 13.

8. Sarah and Mila both start with the same number. Sarah
adds 6 to the number. Mila multiplies the number by 2.
They both get the same result. What number did they
both start with?
Answer/Solution:
Sarah = N + 6 = 12
N = 12-6
N=6
Therefore, Mila = 6 x 2 = 12.
They both start with 6 and have the same result
9. What is the result of multiplying the sum of 5 ones and 2
tens to the difference of 4 tens and 9 ones?
Answer/Solution:
5 ones + 2 tens = 25
4 tens – 9 ones = 31
So, 25 x 31 is equal to 775.

10. Josie added a number to 11. She then multiplied the


sum by 3 and divided the product by 9. If the quotient
was 6, what was the number?
Answer/Solution:
Use inverse solution. 9 x 6 = 54, then 54 will be
divided by 3 and so the answer is 18. Subtract 11 from
18, the answer is 7. Therefore, 7 is the number.
Check: (7+ 11)3÷9=6 - equation
(18)3÷9 = 6
54÷9 =6
6=6
11. Two-thirds of the members of the math club are boys. If
there are 18 boys in the math club, how many pupils are
members of the math club?
Answer/Solution:
If 2/3 of the members of the math club are boys
then 1/3 are girls.
Find the numbers of girls. 1/3 of 18 is equal to 9 or
simply 18 ÷ 3 x 1 = 9.
Therefore, 9 (number of girls) + 18( number of boys) =
27 pupils . So, 27 pupils are members of the math club.

12. A rectangular table can seat 6 persons. If 2 such


rectangular tables are placed side by side, it can seat 10
persons. How many persons can be seated if there are
8 of such tables placed side by side?
Answer/Solution:
There are 8 tables placed side by side, so we will
multiply 8 by 2 and that would be 16. Therefore, 16 x 2
(the number of sides)= 32 + 2(number of person that
can seat in two remaining sides ) = 34
Therefore, 34 persons can be seated if there are 8
of such tables placed side by side.
13. The officials of barangay planted 168 mahogany
seedlings. Fifty-six seedlings grew. What fraction of the
seedlings did not grow? Express your answer in lowest
terms.
Answer/Solution:
Let N = no.ofseedlings that did not grow
168 = no.of mahogany seedlings
56 = no. seedlings that grew
Therefore, N = 168 – 56
N = 112(no.of seedlings that did not grow)
168 is the total number of mahogany seedlings and
112 is the number of seedlings that did not grow, so, the
fraction is 112/168. In lowest term the fraction is 2/3.

14. Sonia and her sister May saved money. Their total
savings was P272. If Sonia saved P68, how many times
greater was May’s savings than Sonia’s?
Answer/Solution:
272 – total savings
68 – Sonia’s saving
272 ÷ 68 = 204
Divide 204 by 68 to get how many times Sonia is greater
than May’s saving. 204 ÷ 68 = 3
Thus, 3 times greater was May savings than Sonia.

15. Ms. Tuazon has P500, P200 and P50 bills in her bag.
The total amount is P2,750. If there are 13 bills in all,
how many P200 bills are there?
Answer/Solution:
2,750 = total amount of money
13 bills = total numbers of bills
3 bills of 500 = 1500
5 bills of 200 = 1000 (get the sum)
5 bills of 50 = 250
13 bills 2,750
Therefore, there are 5 bills of 200 bills in P2,750.

16. Emy has P200. She wants to buy three different fruits.
An apple costs P25. An orange costs P15 and pear
costs P20. If she wants to spend all her money, what is
the most number of oranges that she can buy?
Answer/Solution:
P200 = money of Emy
P25 = cost of an apple
P15 = cost of orange
P20 = cost of pear
Oranges = 15 x 9 = 135
Apple = 25 x 1 = 25
Pear = 20 x 2 = 40
If we get the sum of 135, 25 and 40 the sum is
200. Therefore, the most number of oranges that she
can buy is 9.

17. A box contains 14 muffins. Each box costs P77. If


Sandra sells each muffin for P6, how much is her profit
for selling 5 boxes of muffins.
Answer/Solution:
1 box = 14 muffins
P 77 = cost of each
If Sandra sell each muffin for P6 the cost of each
box will be 84 because 14 x 6 = 84.
So, 84 – 77 = 7 (the amount of profit in each box)
Therefore, in 5 boxes of muffins the profit is 35.

18. Coleen paid P48 for 2 erasers and a marker pen. The
marker pen costs P3 more than an eraser. How much
did she pay for the marker pen?
Answer/Solution:
P48 = cost of 2 eraser and a marker
The cost of pen is 3 more than an eraser. Subtract 3
from 48 the result is 45. Then, divide 45 by 3(2 eraser
and 1 marker) the answer is 15.
Therefore, 2 eraser = P30
1 marker = P18 (15+3)

19. Ben had some stickers. Tim had 20 stickers. After Ben
bought 3 more stickers, he had twice as many stickers
as Tim. How many stickers had Ben at first?
Answer/Solution:
Tim = 20 stickers
Ben = 2 (x + 3)
Let x = stickers of Ben at first
2( x + 3 ) = 20
2x + 6 = 20
2x = 20 – 6
2x = 14

20. Two squares are placed side by side to form a


rectangle. The shaded part of a perimeter of the whole
rectangle?

Answer/Solution:
64 ÷ 8 x 7
8 x 7 = 56 is the 7/8 of 64

22. How many 1/48 are there in 5/6?


Answer/Solution:
Divide 5 /6 by 1/8. In dividing a fraction we get first
the reciprocal of divisor and change the operation into
multiplication.
Therefore, 5/6 ÷ 1/48
5/6 x 48/1
248/6 (divide) = 40
There are 40 1/48 in 5/6.
23. A line passes through a circle at two points? Another
line passes through the same circle. Into how many
parts is the circle divided?
Answer/Solution:

24. A fraction is equal to 4/9. The difference of the


denominator and numerator is 45. What is the
numerator of the fraction?

Find two numbers wherein the difference is 45.One
must be a multiple of 4 and the other one is multiple of9.
4 = 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40
9 = 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90
81 – 36 = 45.
Thus, 36/81 = 4/9. So, 36 is the numerator.

25. A farmer sold 3/5 of his chickens. If he had 28 chickens


left, how many chickens had he at first?
Answer/Solution:
5/5 is the fraction of the total chicken.
5/5 – 3/5 = 2/3
So, 2/3 whish is equal to 28 is the number of chicken
that was left. To get the value of 3/5 use the value of 2/3
which is 28.
2/3 + 2/3 + 1/3 = 5/5
28 + 28 + 14(half of 28)

26. How many right angles are there in a cube?


Answer/Solution:
Since the cube is consist of 6 faces therefore, the right
angles in the cube is 28.

There is no point in the given two parallel lines so they


have no common points.

28. The side of square measures 10 units. How many

30. Marlo was expected to be at a party at 6:15. He was 25


mins late. What time did he arrive?
Answer/Solution:
6:15 = 6 hours and 15 minutes
6 hours and 15 minutes – 25 minutes
= 5 hours and 50 minutes
Therefore, Marlo arrive at 5:50.

31. Jared has 32 kg of rice. He packed them into 3 small


packs, two of which have the same weight and one bag
weighs 10 kg. What are the weights of the other packs?
Answer/Solution:
32kg = rice of Jared
10kg = weighs of bag of rice
Let x = weight of two bags of rice
x =32kg – 10kg

8.5 ÷ 5 = 1.7m

33. Samuel wants to make a bed sheet measuring 8 m by 3


cm. How many squares meters of cloth will he need to
buy?
Answer/Solution:
Let us multiply 8m by 3m.
8m x 3m =24m 2

So, 24m

34. What is the area of a triangle whose base is 8 cm and


whose height is 3 cm.

Use the formula for finding the perimeter of triangle

= 50m + 40m
P = 90m
Daria runs around the field 4.5 times, therefore, we
will multiply 90m by 4.5.
90m x 4.5 = 405m
So, Daria runs 405m.
