➢ (70 000) Thousand

1.1.3. Write down the missing number

86 493 − ____73______ = 86 420

 86 420 − 86 493

= 73

1.1.3. Complete: a prime number is a number that has ____ factors.

➢ only two factors, 1 and itself

1.1.5. Write all prime numbers less than 20.

➢ 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19.

1.2.1. Write down all factors of 99. How many factors are there?
1, 3, 9, 11, 33, 99.
➢ There are 6 factors of 99

1.2.2. Define a composite number. How is it different from a prime number?

➢ Composite numbers: Whole numbers with more than two factors are called
composite numbers. They were created by multiplying numbers by themselves,
and they can be factored.
➢ The difference between a prime number and composite number is that a
composite number has two or more factors whereas prime numbers only has
two factors being 1 and itself.

1.2.3. Round off 729 363 to the nearest 5.

 729 360

1.2.4. Hazel bought shoes for R249 and a dress for R399. Round off the amounts
to the nearest ten rand and calculate how much money she spent.

= R650
 Hazel has spent R650

1.2.5. Name four types of models in learning fractions and how they can be
progressively used in an intermediate phase mathematics classroom
➢ Volume model: A volume model is a concrete model of known fluids that is used
to illustrate fractions. This concept assists learners in determining the many
levels of how full something is and how much space is left. They also use
fractions to develop a measurement context.
➢ Discrete model: It's fraction squares or circles in which individual fraction
components can be physically separated from the whole. This assists learners in
comparing fraction sizes and the relative sizes of different fractions in relation to
a whole.
➢ Area model: The area model is a shape that is divided into equal portions to
represent fractions and can be used to illustrate specific fraction concepts. It
assists learners in fitting a fraction of a whole number into a fraction of a
fraction, multiplying fractions, and understanding equivalent fractions.
➢ Length model: On a number line, the whole is given in intervals. Learners will
develop an understanding of equal lengths as well as a number line context. It
involves the placement of fractions on a number line

QUESTION 2

2.6.1. Write two properties of 0.

➢ When you add or subtract zero from a number, the addition property of zero
states that the value does not change.
➢ Zero times any number equals zero, according to the multiplication property of
zero.

2.6.2. Write two properties of 1.

➢ Any number multiplied by 1 retains its identity, according to the identity
property of 1. To put it another way, any number multiplied by one remains the
same. Because multiplying by one creates one copy of the number, the result
remains the same.
➢ Because the identity of the number remains the same, it is also known as the
Identity property of multiplication.

2.7. Calculate without the use of calculator and show all the steps:
a.) 724 x 43
724
 43
