Note that this assignment uses the variables A, B, C, D, and E, which
should be considered according to your student ID. For example, if
your student ID is: 12-34567-2, then A=3, B=4, C=5, D=6, and E=7.
According to your ID, find the following Values:
A= B= C= D= E=
MAKE THIS PAGE AS THE COVER PAGE OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT
1. Shown in the figure is a circuit
consisting of a power supply with of 20
V and three identical light bulbs. Which
of the bulbs will glow most brightly or
will they all show the same brightness?
Explain the reason.
2. Assume you are asked to design a lighting system consisting of a 100 W power supply and
two lamps as shown in the figure. You must select the two lamps from the following three
available lamps.
R1=CD Ω; cost = 80 Tk
R2=DE Ω; cost = 85 Tk
R3=EC Ω; cost = 90 Tk
The system should be designed for minimum cost such that lies within the range of supply
current of 2.65 A ± 20%. Analyze the scenario and select which combination of lamps meets the
above requirements.
3. Suppose you are working for company “A’, during your employment tenure you have
been asked to design the electrical network for the home of Mr. “X”. Now, Mr. X’s home
has the option to attach ten loads in the network, 1 Television (up to 75 Watts), 3 celling
fans (ranging from BCD-CDE Watts), 5 light bulbs (40 Watts/60Watts/100Watts) and one
washing machine (up to 800W). Mr. ‘X’ has some following conditions:
a. In living room, connection of TV, one light bulb and one fan must be connected in
series
b. In the common space, one light bulb must be in series with the washing machine
Your job is to design the electrical network in a way so that total power usage by Mr. ‘X’
limits between 0.8 KW to 1 KW.
4. Alfredo deDarke sleeps with an A.B Watt night light bulb on. He turns it on before getting
in bed and turns it off 8 hours later.
a. Determine the amount of energy used during one evening in units of KWhr.
b. Electrical energy costs 12 TK/ KWhr where Alfredo lives. Determine the annual (365
days) cost of this practice of using an A.B Watt night light.
c. Determine the annual savings if Alfredo replaced his A.B Watt incandescent night light
by a 0.E Watt LED night light.
