Student should be able to :
1. Apply various functions in Sketcher and Part Design workbenches.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE 2. Major definition learnt in Sketcher workbench are Rectangular, Circle, Constraints
: and Transformation.
3. Meanwhile in major functions learnt in Part Design workbench are Pad and
Pocket.
INTRODUCTION:
The CATIA Version 5 Part Design application makes it possible to design precise 3D

mechanical parts with an intuitive and flexible user interface, from sketching in an
assembly context to iterative detailed design. CATIA Version 5 Part Design
application will enable user to accommodate design requirements for parts of various
complexities, from simple to advance.
This new application, which combines the power of feature-based design with the
flexibility of a Boolean approach, offers a highly productive and intuitive design
environment with multiple design methodologies, such as post-design and local 3D
parameterization
TOOLS / EQUIPMENTS/
MATERIALS : 1. CATIAV5 R21
2. Sketcher workbench
3. Part Design workbench
PROCEDURE:
1. Enter Sketcher workbench.
2. Select the XY initial reference axis and you are now in Sketcher workbench.
3. Use rectangular function to create a simple rectangular.
4. Use constraints function to define the appropriate constraints such as coincidence to the V and H
references.
5. Apply the desired dimensions until the 2D profile sketched turned green.
6. Exit workbench and enter Part Design workbench.
7. Use Pad definition to extrude the 2D profile to 3D model.
8. Few Pad options given such as Dimension, Up to Last, Up to Surface and Up to Next. You may try to
observe the difference.
9. Sketch another profile on any surfaces to try Pocket definition.
10. Pocket definition also offers a few options such as Dimension
11. The 3D model created called Balsa Wood.
