ENGR. NIKKA KAYE BOLANIO BSCE – IV

REACTION PAPER

Last Friday, July 12, 2019 we attended a seminar conducted by the group of
Comoso with a theme “On the Verge of Competency Advancement: Getting Inside
the Engineering Laws.” They invited a guest Speaker who’s well-known enough in
the field we are taking right now, Engr. Sharon Angelica Gilla-Bonguyan, MPA and she
is currently working as building official here in Davao City.

Engr. Sharon discussed about the updates of the building codes that we must
follow as a future Civil Engineer someday in order for us to avoid the delays and
conflicts in our projects. Moreover, she added also the specific requirements for the
building occupancy permits and the city ordinances here in Davao.
As a student, I agree to Engr. Sharon from all what she shared to us. I am
somewhat familiar with the other things she mentioned since I have already taken my
CE laws way back in my old school a year ago. There are a little bit changes of it so I’m
so blessed to be there and gain some additional knowledge from an expert and well-
known Engineer here in Davao.
REFLECTION PAPER

As what I have mentioned above, somehow, I’m familiar with the topics she
shared in the seminar but still I’d gained a lot of learnings from it. For me it is a
reminder for us to be aware of all the building codes that we must follow if there are
any changes then lucky for us to know it now. Engr. Sharon showed us also some
sample forms that we must fill up, for example in applying for building permit. Too
many requirements needed that will take our time but those little sacrifice will lead
to our success with our truthfulness in our work.

I’d gained enough learnings not only the important details in building code but
also the importance of having good values and moral in our work in the near future.
She always reminding us that we must work with honesty as possible. We must know
what we must stand for not for our own good only but also, we must consider the
impact of it to the people surrounds us.

Over all, as a student I must cherish each day of my life and I must not forget to
be a good individual to my colleagues and friends. Good values and having that moral
principle of yours is never easy to maintain. But we are human and we are capable of
choosing right from wrong then we must know where we stand and we must choose
the right thing. As they say “Right is right even if no one’s doing it and wrong is wrong
even if everyone is doing it.” - Saint Augustine.
