‘HAVEN’ Structural Design Basis Report
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF GROUND+1 VILLA ‘HAVEN’ AT
AYANAMBAKKAM, THIRUVERKADU.
PROJECT BRIEF
This report sets out the basic parameters used for the structural design of the
proposed construction of Ground plus one proposed villa ‘HAVEN’ at Ayanambakkam,
Thiruverkadu. This has been updated to incorporate the current information on the
structure.
STRUCTURAL SYSTEM
The structural system adopted is as below, based on preliminary analysis and
design, which have bean elucidated later in this report.
The building is basically a RC framed structure comprising of G+1 floors.
The analysis and design are done using STAAD Pro software.
The foundation System comprises of deep foundation (pile) is adopted as per soil
Test report.
All slabs are designed as conventional slabs.
LOAD DATA
(I) DEAD LOAD
Self-weight of the materials shall be calculated on the basis of unit weights
given in IS: 875 (PART I)
* Unit weight of concrete - 25 KN/m3
* Unit weight of Bricks - 20 KN/m3
* Floor finishes considered - 2 KN/m2

(II) LIVE LOAD
On the basis of intended occupancy and uses, the loading shall be base on
IS: 875 (PART II)
(III) WIND LOAD
Wind loads for design of structures shall be based on the design wind
speeds arrived on IS: 875 (PART III)
The parameters for calculation of design wind speed as per IS: 875
(PART III) are as follows.
Basic wind speed (Vb) : 50 m/sec.
Risk coefficient, K1
(If design life of Structure is taken as 44 yrs) : 1.0
Terrain, Height, Structure size factor, K2 : To suit of the structure
For terrain category-4 and
class C appropriate is 0.67
Topography factor, K3 : 1.0
Design wind speed (Vz) : Vb x K1 x K2 x K3
Design wind pressure (Pz) : 0.6Vz2
: 0.6 x 33.52
: 0.673 kN/m2

(IV) SEISMIC LOAD
Seismic loads for design of structure shall be considered as per
IS 1893-2002.
Zone : III
Zone factor : 0.16
Importance factor : 1
Response Reduction factor : 3.0
DESIGN LOAD COMBINATION
The proposed building is designed using the limit state method with
appropriate factors as per IS: 456-2000.
The load combinations are as follows
Load Combination
1.0 (DL+LL)
1.0(DL+WLX)
1.0(DL-WLX)
1.0(DL+WLZ)
1.0(DL-WLZ)

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA
1. The structure is idealized as 3d frame and analyzed using software package
(STAAD Pro) for both vertical and lateral loads.
2. The lateral loads include wind loads and earthquake loads, seismic loads of medium
And moderate intensity of Zone III is considered for analysis and design puropose.
3. The foundation is designed for critical un-factored load combinations.
4. The super structure members are designed for actual flexure, shear and forces.
5. The structure is analyzed for specific loads (Dead and live loads) and for the load
Combinations given in relevant codes.
