GOAL SETTING FOR SUCCESS

Objectives:
1. Evaluate the power of one's goal
2. Reconstruct one's goal which will lead one to good life.
3. Assess the effect of one's goal to one's self, family and Philippine Society
4. Identifying hindrances to the successful attainment of goal and how these can be overcome.

Introduction
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible. It is the first step because it will
serve as our guide and motivation to achieve our goals easily. Settings goals is vital for everyone, without
this we can’t accomplish our goals effective and efficiently.

 Edwin Locke is an American psychologist and co-developer of goal setting theory. He is Dean’s
Professor of Motivation and Leadership Emeritus at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at
the University of Maryland, College Park, and was also affiliated with the Department of
Psychology.

Goal Setting Theory of Motivation

 In 1960’s, Edwin Locke put forward the Goal-setting theory of motivation. This theory states that
goal setting is essentially linked to task performance. It states that specific and challenging goals
along with appropriate feedback contribute to higher and better task performance.

Effective goal-setting principles:

 Clarity. A clear, measurable goal is more achievable than one that is poorly defined.
 Challenge. The goal must have a decent level of difficulty in order to motivate you to strive toward
the goal.
 Commitment. Put deliberate effort into meeting this goal. Share your goal with someone else in
order to increase your accountability to meet that goal.
 Feedback. Set up a method to receive information on your progress toward a goal.
 Task complexity. If a goal is especially complex, make sure you give yourself enough time to
overcome the learning curve involved in completing the task.
What is Goal Setting
 Goal setting is the process of deciding what you want to accomplish and devising a plan to
achieve the result you desire. For entrepreneurs, goal setting is an important part of business
planning.

4 Tips for Setting Powerful Goals

1. Evaluate and Reflect


The purpose of evaluation is twofold. First, it gives you an objective way to look at your
accomplishments and your pursuit of the vision you have for life. Secondly, it shows you where you are so
you can determine where you need to go. Evaluation gives you a baseline to work from.
2. Define your dreams and goals
One of the amazing things we have been given as humans is the unquenchable desire to have
dreams of a better life and the ability to establish and set goals to live out those dreams.
3. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T
 Specific
 Measurable
 Attainable
 Realistic
 Time

4. Have Accountability
When someone knows what your goals are, they hold you accountable by asking you to “give an
account” of where you are in the process of achieving that goal. Accountability puts some teeth into the
process.

Learning Experience
Most of us experience rushing and as result we procrastinate and out of focus. After we
have gain knowledge about setting goals we realize how important it is in achieving our goals effective
and efficiently.

Conclusion
The reporters, concluded that to be able to achieve the things easily you have to set goals. And
settings goals include the five (5) effective ways, these are clarity, challenge, commitment, feedback and
task complexity. You also have to consider the four tips for setting powerful goals, these are; evaluate and
reflect, define your dreams and goals, make your goals SMART, lastly have accountability.
