Strength Calculation For Platform

This document summarizes the strength calculation for a platform supported by 5 ISMC 200 brackets at 42.800m in a wet gas scrubber. It calculates the load acting on the platform from self-weight, grating weight, and factored live load. It then calculates the bending stress and determines the platform structure is safe as the calculated bending stress of 11.43 Kg/mm2 is less than the allowable bending stress of 16.5 Kg/mm2.

STRENGTH CALCULATION FOR PLATFORM AT 42.

800M
WET GAS SCRUBBER S-2304

As per drawing number PESPDX3002-S0-02-0039_REV.06, Platform above Reheat mixing duct is supported by
5 numbers of ISMC 200 brackets ( C sections) shown as A,B C D & E in the sketch below. A sketch showing the dimensional
details necessary for calculating the strength of platform structure is shown below.

PLAN AT ELV. (+) 42.800 M (T.O.S)
ALL DIMENSIONS ARE IN MM
ALL DIMENSIONS ARE IN MM

Area coverd by bracket "C" = 60 * (A+B) H

360 2

= 60 * (3993+2838) 1000
360 2
= 569250 mm²

Load acting on unit area, = 1.6 * 5 * 1 kN / m

(Factored live load)
= 8 kN / m
Equivalent point load, = 8*1.735
= 13.88 kN
= 1388 kg

Dead load, D = (Self weight of beam + Self weight of grating) * 1.4

(Factored dead load)
= (0.5+ 0.5) * 1.4
= 1.4 kN / m
Equivalent point load, = 1.4*1.735
= 2.43 kN
= 243 kg

Live load acting on the platform, W = 2000 * 1.6

(Factored - Due to scaffolding) = 3200 Kgs.

Live load acting per beam, P = 3200 / 4

800 Kgs.

Total load, = 800+1388+243

2431 Kgs.
Bending stress Calculation:

Minimum yield stress. Y 25 kg/mm²
Allowable bending stress, Sb=0.66*Y 16.5 kg/mm² (Ref. attachment 2, Allowable stresses,10th edition by E Megyesy)

b = 3109 mm

Distance from stack O.D to C.O.G of platform = 3109 - Stack radius (Stack radius=4516 / 2)
= 3109 - 2258
= 851 mm

Section modulus, Z, mm³ [bd³ - h³ (b-t)] (Ref. attachment 4,

6 * 200
= 180994 mm³

Moment, M, Kg-mm = P*b

= 2431 / 851 Kg-mm
= 2068789 Kg-mm

Bending stress, S, Kg/mm² = M/Z

= 2068789 / 180994 Kg/mm²
= 11.43 Kg/mm²
Since, S < Sb HENCE SAFE
