1 Purpose

This method of statement covers Fabrication of Hollow Metal Doors & Frames
(Fire-rated) and also the on-site installations of Hollow metal Doors & Frames
(Fire-rated) as defined in the General Specification.

2 Project Introduction

Khiran Outlet Mall Project is located in the heart of Al-Khiran Pearl City and
overlooking Khiran Marina Development. The Mall has an outdoor large parking
area located at the north-west side of the project and the plot is serviced with
public facilities.

The Mall footprint is around 75,000 m2 and the estimated total built-up area
exceeds 196,400 m2. It is composed of 4 levels with the following major
functions:

1. Ground Floor : Anchors, retail Shops, F & B, FEC and prayer Rooms.
2. Mezzanine : Anchors, retail Shops, F & B, FEC and prayer Rooms.
3. Level 01 : Female Gym, Male gym and Plant Rooms.
4. Level 02 : Storage Rooms, Offices and Break Rooms.

3 Scope of Work

This procedure will define the method to fabricated, off-loading and installation
to be used to ensure that the Hollow Metal Door & Frames (Fire-rated) are
correct and acceptable and shall conform to the Contract Documents and
Specification.

4 Responsible Personnel on Site

4.1 Project Manager

5 Delivery, Off-loading and Storage

5.1 Upon delivery, all material shall be thoroughly inspected for damage. Cardboard and
other wrappings shall be removed for inspection.

5.2 Off load the Doors & Frames on the designated off-loading area. Proper care will be
observed during off loading to prevent unnecessary damage or dents on the Doors &
Frames.

5.3 Store all materials in a dry area, under cover. All ferrous metal products will be stored
where they will not be exposed to, or come in contact with water. This is particularly
true of products such as doors, which have large flat surfaces on which water may
collect if they are stacked horizontally.

6 Quality Control Methodology

1. Quality and Compliance with Standards

a.) All doors would be of the best quality available material. Upon the failure
of any door to meet the set standards, the door will be removed from site and
replacement will be supplied immediately.
b.) All doors will bear Quality Controller’s approval before being stored ready
for processing.
c.) Materials will be inspected for the following:
i. Compliance to the control samples issued by the Architect.

7 Safety

Listed below are the safety practices will be observed by all workers concerned
during the whole duration of the project:
7.1 Wearing of safety shoes and helmet at all times.
7.2 Provision of sufficient illumination/lighting on the work area.
7.3 Provision of necessary warning signs and barricades, if required.
7.4 Wearing of safety goggles during drilling or cutting, if required.

8 Pre-Installation

8.1 Use of Architect’s approved shop drawings as installation reference.

8.2 All obstruction to installation shall be removed prior to mobilization.
8.3 Secure necessary permits prior to installation if required.

10 Installation

It has been presumed that all related civil works has been completed prior to
installation.
10.1 INSTALLATION OF STEEL DOOR FRAME

a. Confirm the MIR (Material Inspection Report) approved.

b. Confirm the site readiness – confirm inside and outside wall is in-line and level,
opening as per requirement once the plaster is done and checklist is approved. If any
changes found, it will be notified to main contractor for further advice.
c. Once Site is ready for installation, Place frame in opening. Roughly check frame for
squareness and plumbness.
d. Using frame as a template, drill 10mm dia. hole in wall.
e. Insert Expansion Wall Anchor Bolts, Fischer (3pcs in each side countersunk head
size M10 x length varies as per wall).
f. Tighten the anchors continually checking square, alignment, twist and plumb in the
jamb as tightening progresses.
g. After complete installation of Door Frame a Checklist will be submitted for approval
to check frame ready for installation of leaf.

Installation Tolerances: Tolerances for hollow-metal frames:

a. Squareness: Plus, or minus 1.6 mm, measured at door rabbet on
a line 90 degrees from jamb perpendicular to frame head.
b. Alignment: Plus, or minus 1.6 mm, measured at jambs on a
horizontal line parallel to plane of wall.
c. Twist: Plus, or minus 1.6 mm, measured at opposite face corners
of jambs on parallel lines, and perpendicular to plane of wall.
d. Plumbness: Plus, or minus 1.6 mm, measured at jambs at floor.

10.2 INSTALLATION OF STEEL DOOR LEAF

a. Once the WIR approved, fit and adjust hollow-metal doors accurately in frames,
within clearances.
b. After complete installation of Door leaf WIR (checklist)will be submitted for
approval.
c. Grouting will be done according to specification requirement.
d. WIR (Checklist) will be submitted for final approval and Hardware Installation.

Installation Tolerances: Tolerances for hollow-metal door leafs:

a. Jambs and Head: 3 mm plus or minus 1.6 mm.
b. Between Edges of Pairs of Doors: 3 mm plus or minus 1.6 mm.
c. Between Bottom of Door and Top of Threshold: Maximum 9.5 mm.
d. Between Bottom of Door and Top of Finish Floor (No Threshold):Maximum 19 mm.

10.3 INSTALLATION OF HARDWARE

a. Once the WIR is approved, Fixing of Lockset on the Door, Flush Bolt (Top &
Bottom of the door), Door Closer etc. as per approved Hardware Schedule.
