c. Presentation of the lesson: Today we are going to discuss the different parts of MS Word, the
importance as well on how to operate simple operation using MS Word Application.
What is MS WORD?
MS Word 2010 is a word processor that allows you to create various types of documents such as
letters, papers, flyers, and faxes.
Important Use of MS Word
These in an example screen shots of MS Word 2010, were in you are going to see the different parts
of MS Word.

THE RIBBON
The Ribbon contains all of the commands you’ll need in order to perform common tasks. It contain
multiple tabs, each tabs with several group of commands.
FILE MENU
Backstage view gives you various options for saving, opening, a file, printing, or sharing your
document.
THE QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR
The Quick Access Toolbar is located above the Ribbon, and it lets you access common commands
no matter which tab you’re on. By default, it shows the Save, Undo, and Repeat commands.
THE RULER
The Ruler is located at the top and to the left of your document with precision. If you want, you
can hide the ruler to free up more space.
DOCUMENT
Word file are called documents. Whenever you start a new project in Word, you’ll need to create a
new document, which can either be blank or from template.
TABLES
A table is a grid of cells arranged in rows and columns. Tables can be customized and are useful
for various tasks such as presenting text information and numerical data.
How to insert a Blank Table?
1. Place your insertion point in the document where you want the table to appear.
2. Select Insert Tab
3. Click the command
4. Hover your mouse over the diagram squares to select the numbers of columns and rows in
the table.
5. Click your mouse, and the table appears in the document.
6. You can now place the insertion point anywhere to in the table to add text.
How to insert a Formula in Table?
1. To insert table formulas in Word, click into the table cell where you want to
display the answer to be formula.
2. Click the “Layout” tab of the “Table Tools” contextual tab in the Ribbon.
3. Click the “Formula” button in the “Data” group to open the “Formula” dialog box.
4. If necessary, click into the “Formula:” text box and enter the desired formula.
5. To format the display of the number, if desired, use the “Number format:” drop-
down.
6. To select a function to add to the formula in the “Formula:” text box, if needed,
use the “Paste function:” drop-down.
7. Click the “OK” button to insert the formula field into the selected cell.

1. Setup for 3 columns and 5 rows
2. Centre the heading in the first row
3. Bold the Heading on the first rows
4. Enter the text shown
5. Adjust the column sizes and highlight text color as needed to look similar to below
6. Centre the table left to right on the page.
7. Save as “Basic Table your group no.”

the activity sheets provided and follow the step by step procedure. Compute the
Average of the following student from PNHS-CC using MS Word application by
applying the formula (=AVERAGE)
1. Setup for 6 columns and 7 rows
2. Centre the heading in the first row
3. Bold the Heading on the first rows
4. Enter the text shown
5. Change the font face to Arial
