EE1100 Tutorial 3

This document provides three practice problems for basic electrical engineering circuits involving RL, RC, and RLC components. The first problem involves finding current expressions for an inductor in an RL circuit where the switch is opened at t=0. The second problem involves finding initial and later currents and voltages for components in an RC circuit where the switch closes at t=0. The third problem involves finding the current for a resistor in an RLC circuit where the switch closes at t=0.

EE1100: Basic Electrical Engineering

Tutorial 3: RL, RC and RLC circuits

1. The switch in the circuit shown below was closed for a very long time
until it was opened at t = 0. Find expressions for (a) iL(0-); (b) iL(0+), (c)
iL(∞) and (d) iL (t) for t > 0.

2. The switch in the following circuit closes at t = 0 after being open for a
long time. Find (a) iL (0-), (b) vC (0-), (c) iR (0+), (d) iC (0+) and (e) vC
(0.2s)
3. After being open for a long time, the switch closes at t = 0. Find iA at (a) t
= 0- and (b) t > 0
