P632 Test Method

The document provides settings and testing procedures for differential protection on a MiCOM P63x relay. It includes settings for primary and secondary CT ratios, vector group, pick-up thresholds, and time delays. Testing involves injecting various current magnitudes and phase angles into the primary and secondary windings to verify the relay's three-part tripping characteristic and harmonic restraint functionality. Tests are also conducted to ensure the relay does not operate for through currents.

MiCOM 632 Differential Protection Relay Testing:

1. Differential Test:
Use Omicron Test kit. Set phase angle of Primary winding to 00, -1200 and 1200
Set phase angle of Secondary winding to 2100, 900 and -300
This is to account for 300 phase shift due to DY11 connection and 1800 phase shift
for adjusting the current flow of secondary into the relay. Keep the Ip a, Ip b
settings in Function Parameters – Global – Main – to Standard.
Relay to be set as: m1 – 0.3, m2 – 0.7, I diff – 0.3 and IR m2 – 1.5

Testing involves verification of the tripping characteristic, which has three parts.
The first part is the differential pick-up, which is tested as described earlier.
 First part of the characteristic is verified as follows.
Increase injected currents slowly from zero in Primary keeping zero
current in Secondary. Find pick-up and read relay displayed value.
It should read I diff - 0.3 I ref and I rest - 0.15 I ref (Half of the I diff)
 Second part of the relay curve
Make injected currents in Primary and Secondary 1.0 Amps. Reduce the
Secondary injected current slowly. Find pick-up and read relay displayed
value. It should read I diff - 0.47 I ref and I rest - 0.71 I ref (Approx.)

Theoretical value of the I diff is calculated as follows:

I diff = m1 * I rest + m1(1-0.5*m1)

I diff = 0.3*0.71 + 0.3(1-0.5*0.3)

0.468 - Which verifies the relay displayed value of I diff.

 Third part of the relay curve

Make injected currents in Primary 4.0 Amps and Secondary 3.0 Amps.
Reduce the Secondary injected current slowly. Find pick-up and read relay
displayed value. It should read I diff - 1.74 I ref and I rest - 2.99 I ref
(Approx.)

Theoretical value of the I diff is calculated as follows:

I diff = m2 * I rest + I diff * (1-0.5*m1) + IR m2 * (m1 – m2)

I diff = 0.7 * 2.99 + 0.3 * (1 - 0.5 * 0.3) + 1.5 * (0.3 – 0.7)

1.748 - Which verifies the relay displayed value of I diff.

2. Harmonic Restraint: (Rush I)

Test relay pick-up at 10*I ref. at primary with >20% second harmonic filtering.
Relay should not pick-up. Filter value set at < 20% causes relay to pick-up.

3. Through Current:
Inject same current on primary and secondary. Ensure no operation of the relay.
Currents can be measured on
Operations – Cyclic Measurement – Measure Op. Data – Main – Pri. Amps
and Sec. Amps
