THE EGG ON THE BED
Nell! Nell!
There’s an egg on my bed
“Oh, Del.
That is your pet’s egg.
Your hen sat on your bed.”
THE RED PEN
‘Where is my red pen?” yells Nell.
“It was on my bed.
But it is not there now.
Did you get it, Ted?”
“No, Nell, I did not get your pen.”
“Look, Nell.
Your pen fell.
It is under your bed.”
ANTS ON MY ATIS
Big ants
Tiny ones
Crawl around
My atis so round.
It could only mean
That this atis so green
Is very sweet
And good to eat.
THE RED BAG
Dad has a red bag.
The bag is for Jan.
The bag has a tag.
But nan wants the bag.
Nan gets the bag.
Jan is sad.
“Bad Nan,” yells Dad.
Dad is mad at Nan.
MY PET HEN
I am Dan.

My pet hen gives me eggs.
I have ten eggs.
But my hen is sad.
She will not give me any more eggs if she

My hen, here are your eggs.

Jan has a ham
The ham is in the pan.
A rat gets the ham.

THE TOY JET
Den was in the garden.
He played with his toy jet.
Oh, the toy jet fell.
It fell into the well.
“Ben! Ben!
My toy jet is in the well.”
“Get a net, Den.
We will get your toy jet.”
GRANDMA
“Grandma is here,” yell Nan.
Sam, Pat and Mama run.
Grandma is in the van with Dad.
They meet Grandma
They are so glad.
Grandma has a big bag.
“I have a red fan for you, Nan.
“here is your bat, Sam.
Here is a hat for Dad.
And I have a bag for Mama”
“Thank you; Grandma
Pat is sad.
She has no bag nor fan.
Oh, here is a pen for Pat.
Pat is glad.
IN THE GARDEN
Sam and Nan are in the garden.
They have a basket.
They will get atis.
“Meow, meow.”
Tab is with them. “Go back, Tab,” yells Nan.
But Tab does not go back.
In the garden, there’s a ladder.
On the ladder is a fat rat.
Tab runs up the ladder.
She nabs the rat.
Sad rat.
WHEN I WAS ILL
When I was ill
I stayed in bed
I took a pill
The doctor gave.
Mother stayed beside my bed.
To gently rub my little head.
THE BIG RAT
‘Tim! Tim!
A rat is in my bag.
It is a big rat.
It bit my bag.
Get rid of the rat, Tim.”
“Oh, Nan.
I did not kill the rat.
It ran fast.”
MY SICK SISTER
My sister is sick.
She is in the bed.
She rests in bed.
Mama gives her pills.
She does not eat.
She tells mom that the food is bitter.
Moms gives her milk.
She sips a little of it.
Poor sister.
When will she get well?
THE WIG AND THE KITTEN
Jill has a wig.
The wig is on her bed.
The kitten sees the wig.
The kitten gets the wig.
Oh, the kitten licks the wig.
“Bad kitten!
Don’t lick my wig.”
Jill is mad.
She kicks the kitten.
Poor kitten.
It is sad.
It sits under the bed.
JIM AND THE PIGLETS
Jim has a fat pig,
The pig has six piglets.
The pig and the piglets
are in a big pigpen.
The piglets bit and bit the pigpen.
Then they go out.
They ran to the garden.
Dig, dig, dig
Oh! My garden is in a mess!
Bad piglets.
Jim is mad.
Jim gets his hammer,
“I will fix that pigpen.”
JILL’S WISH
How I wish
Santa will pass
To fill my sock
With toys I want.
A rag doll
In a box
And a red top
For brother Max.
THE TOP AND THE DOLL
Dad has boxes.
One box is for Tina.
The other box is for Timmy.
Tina and Timmy open the boxes.
“Oh! I have a doll,” says Tina.
“I have a red top,” says Timmy.
Tina and Timmy kiss Dad.
“Thank you, Dad.”
TOM AND HIS DOG
Tom is a farmer.
He has a pet dog.
His dog is Cop.
Cop is his pal.
Tom will get some hogs.
He will get them from Don.
He will fix a pen for the hogs.
Tom has the hogs.
He gives them cobs.
Mmm… mmm…
The hogs are glad.
Aw! Aw! Aw!
Cop is not glad.
He is mad.
He is mad at the hogs.
THE DOLL
It is Jill’s birthday.
Jill is seven.
Mom has a box for Jill.
Jill opens the box.
Wow! A doll!
Thank you, Mom.
Jill kisses and hugs Mom.
UMBRELLAS
Red umbrellas
Yellow and green
All are open
When it starts to rain.
Blue umbrellas
Pink and black
Are taken out
Of the rack.
Umbrellas on parade,
A rainbow on the street.
What a joyous sight
Makes a dark day bright.
THE LITTLE TURTLE
There was a little turtle.
He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle
He climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a mosquito,
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow
And he snapped at me.
He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
He caught me.
RAG AND TAG
This is Rag.
This is Tag.
Rag and Tag like to play.
They like to jump.
They like to roll.
They like to roll a red ball.
They like to jump over the red ball.
See the ball roll.
See it roll here.
See it roll there.
See the red ball
roll here and there.
Rag runs after the ball.
Tag jumps over the ball.
Rag and Tag have fun.
They have fun rolling
the red ball.
They have fun running
After the red ball.
They have fun jumping
over the red ball.
THE SPIDERS IN THE BOX
“Come, Ted,” said Penny.
“Come, Ben,” said Wendy.
“Look in the box.
A spider is in the box
Look at its web.”
“See the spider make a web.
See it go round and round.
See the web get bigger and bigger,”
said Penny.
“The spider has baby spiders,” said Ted.
There are ten baby spiders.
See them go here and there.
See them go up and down the web.
“Let’s catch a bug,” said Ben.
“Let us put the bug in the web.
Let us see the baby spiders.
Let us see them get on the web.
Let us see them get the bug.”
What fun Ted and Ben had.
What fun Penny and Wendy had.
What fun it was to see the
spiders in the box.
THE NARRA TREE
Here is a narra tree.
It is a tall tree.
It is hard and strong.
It gives us shade.
It is made into tables,
chairs and beds.
The narra has small yellow flowers.
The flowers become small round seeds.
The narra is our national tree.
