Explanation Exercise

The eye is the most important sensory organ that allows humans to receive four-fifths of information from the outside world. The document proceeds to explain how vision works through the eye. Light enters the retina where rod and cone cells convert it into electrical signals. Rods allow peripheral and low-light vision while cones allow color vision and visual detail. The signals are transmitted through the optic nerve to the brain for interpretation and sight.

The eye is the most important sensory organ of the human body. Four fifths of all information) from the outside world
reaches the brain through the eye. But how does this wonderful organ works?

Once light reaches the retina. The light – sensing cells( photoreceptors ) covert light into electrical impulses . Photoreceptor cell
are either rods or cones. Rods are concentrated along the outer perimeter of the retina. They help us to see image in our
peripheral vision and also to see in dark and dimly lit environments. Cones are concentrated in the macula, The centre of the
retina , allowing us to see fine visual detail in the centre of our vision, they also allow us to perceive colour, Together , the
photoreceptors convert light into electrical impulses that are passed through the rest of the retina, through the optic nerve to
the brain. The Visual centres in the brain interpret the information received from the retina, enabling us to see.

The sense of taste is one of a person’s five senses. We taste with the help of taste – buds in the tongue
There are four main kinds of taste, sour, salty, salty and bitter. All other tastes are just mixtures of two or more of
these main types
The surface of the tongue has more than fifteen thousand taste- buds ( or cells) these are s for the bitter taste
connected to the brain by special nerves which send the sa-called tastes messages
When the tongue comes into contact with food of ny kind, the taste buds will pick up the taste. The nerves then
send a message to the brain. This will make us aware of the taste. All this happen in just a few seconds
There are four kinds of taste-buds, each of which is sensitive to olnly a particular taste. These four groups are
located in different , parts of the tongue.
The taste- buds for salty And sweet tastes are found round the tip of the tongue and along its sides. Sour tastes can
be picked up only at the sides of the tongue. The taste- buds for the bitter taste are found at the innermost edge of
the tongue. There are taste-buds at the centre of the tongue.
The senses of smell and sight can affect taste. The good smell of food increases its taste. Similarly , attractive
colours can make food appear tastier and more delicious. If food does not smell good or is dull –coloured , it will look
tasty and may not taste good at all.
Very hot or cold sensation can make the taste- buds insensitive. Food that is too hot or too cold, when placed in
the mouth, will have no tastes at all.

6. When we eat very hot or cold food….

A. The food will lose its taste.
B. The food won’t smell good
C. The taste of the food increases
D. The taste-buds will be sensitive
E. The taste-buds will be very responsive
7. The senses of smell and sight…….
A. Increase the taste of the food
B. affect the taste of the food
C. make food more delicious
D. make the food look good
E. make the food attractive
8. The purpose of the text is…
A. To explain how we can taste any food in the mouth
B. To give a report about the sense of taste
C. To inform how important the tongue is
D. To describe the use of the tongue
E. To tell the taste of the food

Supply and demand, How Market Works

Two basic terms that are used most often by economists are supply and demands. How much of something that
is available – the supply- and how much of something people want- the demand- are what makes a working
markets. The market is the way in which an economic activity is organized between buyers and sellers through
their behavior and interaction with one another
Buyers as a group, determine the overall for a particular product at various prices while sellers, as a group ,
determine the supply of a particular product at various prices. The interaction of buyers and sellers in the market
helps to determine the market price. Thereby allocating scarce goods and services efficiently. The price is taken
into account when deciding how much of something to consume, and also how much to produce.
The relationship between price and quantity demanded is so universal that iit is called the low of demand.
This lam states that with all else equal, when the price of a good rises. The quantity demanded falls- and when
the price falls, the quantity demanded rises. The supply curve provides the opposite information the higher the
price , the higher the quantity supplied- and the lower the price, the lower the quantity supplied
A key function of the market is to find the equilibrium price when supply and demand are in balance. At this
price , the goods supplied are equal to what is being demanded thereby bringing about the most efficient
allocation of goods in a market is one I which no one can be made better off unless someone else is made worse
off
9. According to low of demand , the quantity of consumption and production of good is determined by…..
A. The price .
B. The demand
C. The supply
D. The market
E. The economy
10. The law of demand works if….
A. More people buy a good when it’s getting more expensive
B. The price of good rises when more people buy it
C. The price of good falls when fewer people buy it
D. Fewer people buy goods when its price rises
E. More people buy goods when the prices rises

Rain always comes from clouds. But where do clouds come from? How does all the water get into the sky?

Think about your bathroom. There is hot water in your bath. Steam goes up from the hot water. The steam makes small
clouds in the bathroom. These warm clouds meet the cold walls and windows. Then we see small drops of water on the walls
and windows.

The world is like your bathroom. The water in the oceans is warm when the sun shines on it. Some of this water goes up into
the sky and makes clouds. The wind carries the clouds for hundreds of kilometers . The clouds meet the cold air in the sky. Then
we’ll see drops of water after the condensation of clouds to water. The drops of water are rai
