Lecture #1 Topic Introduction To Statistics

Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting data to assist in making more effective decisions. A statistic is a value computed from a sample, while a population is the set of all units of interest in a particular study. There are two main branches of statistics: descriptive statistics, which consists of methods for organizing and summarizing information clearly and effectively; and inferential statistics, which uses sample data to make inferences about a population. Statistics provides useful tools across many fields by aiding research, presenting data visually, and allowing for critical analysis of information.
