Lesson 1 Analysis

The objective of the lesson was for students to define and explain the three tectonic plate boundaries and relate them to geological features. Students watched a video on plate boundaries and completed a foldable activity. They struggled initially but were able to complete the foldable with examples. For assessment, students did a matching game which most completed correctly. To improve the lesson, the teacher would fill out part of the foldable as an example, provide websites for research, and use a projector to demonstrate the activity clearly.

Classroom Interactions

Analysis of Teaching Event 1

The objective of this lesson is that students will be able to define and

explain the three tectonic plate boundary types, convergent, divergent, and

transform, and relate the interactions of plates at these boundaries to the

formation of crustal features such as mountains, volcanoes, seafloor crust,

as well as some natural disasters such as earthquakes, and volcanic

eruptions.

The students watched a plate boundary video and answered questions

following it. The students showed that they did have prior knowledge on the

different plate boundaries and some of the geological effects that occurred,

but were still expanding their understanding of the topic.

The students then filled out a plate tectonic wheel foldable that included all

of the different plate boundaries, examples, pictures, and features of the

boundaries. The students were graded based on the completion of the

foldable and the accuracy of the information. The students struggled at first

with what to put as the features and examples but after doing a couple of

examples with them, they were able to do it on their own. Using a foldable in

class is beneficial because it involves higher-level thinking and helps

organize information better.

Classroom Interactions
Analysis of Lesson 1

The students completed a matching game of the different boundaries with

their features for an assessment at the end of the lesson. This assessment

was graded based on all of the correct matches the students got.

Based on my student’s performance, I will make sure to provide a

website they can go to for finding features and examples because I saw they

were a little unsure of where to go to find the information. Also, since the

technology was limited in the classroom, it was hard to show the students

the foldable and direct them accordingly of what to put on each section. I

will make sure to put directions on their paper or fill out part of the foldable

to help the students if I were to teach this again. Having a projector in class

would have been very beneficial in helping my students do better on this

assignment.

If I were to teach this again, I would go ahead and fill out part of the

foldable because it was confusing without the use of an overhead projector

to show the students exactly what I was talking about. There were a lot of

steps and I should have simplified them to the 6th-grade level. I would also

provide websites the students could go to look up information to fill out the
