My goal for this class was to enhance my knowledge in computer skills and literacy. I am
studying to become an elementary teacher; computer skills are beginning to be required in this
generation. My objectives I focused on were to Approach new computer-based tasks more easily
and with greater confidence, Locate, open, and use the following software applications at an
intermediate level: e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, web page development,
internet search strategies, and Canvas course management system and be familiar with a majority
of Google based applications.
When I started the class, I was pretty much confidence that I could fit this class into my daily
schedule; didn’t go quite as planned. Towards the end of the semester everything felt like it just
overload on me. Having a baby in the middle of the semester was tough. My time management
played a huge role in my academics. At the beginning of class it started smoothly because the
class started out with some similar computer software, I knew I could handle. I started this class
only knowing the basics computer skills such as Word, Internet search, PowerPoint,
downloading a few things. I am not very literate in Computer literacy. I looked at computers as
something to learn in my spare time or when I must learn it, I would fiddle around with it to find
out more about it. But that wasn’t so often, only when required. This class has taught me more
than I know and more than I expected to learn. There were times when everything got hard. I
would sit up late into the night trying to figure things out, when I did, I felt accomplished and a
bit proud that I actually finished.

Through the process of every module it was a step by step program to help me learn new things
and find out new ways to use what I already knew. Word and PowerPoint are what I use all the
time with school. Spreadsheet was new to me, never used it, always avoided it. After going
through it, wish I knew about it earlier. Another thing I learned that was similar was google
docs, whoa! That was also an exciting moment for me, I literally learned on the go. The best
thing with that is all I had to do was log into my ASU account from any computer and my work
would be there, so much easier. The one thing I still don’t understand or how to do is create
commons, finding the right way to cite photos and using free photos. It wasn’t fun for me, and I
don’t know if I’ll use it again. But I will try and learn it again someday.
This new technology knowledge I have gained has given me more confidence to try new ways to
teach to be more innovative. Education is one place where everything changes almost every year.
So, studying to become a teacher I must be open to change especially in technology. One light
bulb moment I had was with screencast. After downloading the software, I was so confused on
how to open the new software and where to find it. When I found it and got it set up, I figured
how to use it and then the light bulb came up how to record my voice and show my every move.
It was amazing and fun. Something I will be using in my future teaching career.
