Rationale for the Design and Construction of This Plant
Mixing, the feed including i-propyl alcohol and water, and recycle stream are
mixed in feed drum. Mixture is heated to reaction temperature in the heater. Reactor
used is a tubular flow reactor. Acetone, hydrogen gas (H2) are produced and water and
i-propyl-alcohol are discharged. The mixture with acetone, hydrogen, water, i- propyl-
alcohol are sent to cooler and then to condenser. Condensation, during this process,
water is used as cooling material upon exposure to a lower temperature, will condensed
and liquefy into desired product. (Distillation) After condenser the mixture is sent to flash
unit. Hydrogen, acetone, i-propyl- alcohol and water are obtained as top product .Top
product is sent to scrubber to remove hydrogen. (Separation)In acetone column,
acetone is obtained from top product with 99 wt% İsopropyl alcohol and water and also
0.1% of acetone is sent to i-propyl-alcohol column from bottom product.
Market Analysis
The global acetone market size was estimated at USD 4.04 billion in 2018 and is
projected to register a 5.4% CAGR in terms of revenue over the forecast period. Factors
such as increasing application of acetone as a solvent and a high demand in
pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and paints and adhesives industries are projected to drive
the growth.
Current Processing Plant Situation in the Country
There are no details about the plant situation in the country since our plant will be the
first Acetone plant in the Philippines.
Description of the Target Location and Available Resources That Can Be Used to
Run a Plant
The plant is located at a wide field in Brgy. Bulacan, Mabini Batangas with a. The
entire plant occupies a total land area of 1, 800 sq.m and is near Mabini Gulf. The plant
is designed to house 30-40 workers and sufficient space for work.
The location and layout of a plant can greatly impact its economic and
operational success. Objectives such as cost minimization, efficient material distribution,
room for expansion, and safety of the plant operators and local community play
important roles in the site decision. The major factors affecting this decision are market
and labor. National and regional environmental legislations impact the processes, and
thus make some areas more desirable than others. Least important are land costs and
financial incentives. When planning to build a new facility or expanding an existing site,
companies utilize their site selection team to assemble a list of desirable locational
characteristics and determine how the new facility will fit in with the overall company.
Then with the help of consultants, a location is narrowed down and further analyses are
done to justify the continuation of the project. The location should be obtained before
design of the details of the process. Within the site itself, process units are arranged to
allow for the most economical flow of people and material, optimal safety, and room for
future expansion.
