Product Distribution Methods Guide

Product distribution involves choosing the optimal transportation method based on budget, speed needs, and safety regulations. Key factors include budget, delivery timeliness, product perishability, size and weight. Transportation options include road, rail, air, sea, and courier. Road transport is flexible and affordable but slower, while rail can be fast but expensive for small loads. Air transport is fastest over long distances but costly and unsustainable. Sea freight is cheapest for large volumes but slower, and couriers are reliable for urgent small deliveries. Proper planning ensures the right transport mode for each product shipment.

Summary Product distribution: the basics

In the article distribution of the product: the basics the author clearly shows us the
different means we can use to transport a product and thus be able to have highly
surprised customers.

When choosing the means of transport should be considered:

The budget that will take you

The speed of the transport since if we transport perishable products an agile and
reliable means is needed.

To transport dangerous products, we must contact the dangerous goods branch of

the transport department.

If we transport expensive products it is possible to consider marine insurance and

this will be paid by the buyer or seller according to the terms of the exchange.

The author also refers to using a vehicle tracking system to know exactly where
your product is.

The article shows us the different transport modes to choose correctly since this
depends on the size and urgency of your shipment.

Road

Road transport is flexible, cheap and convenient, it is environmentally friendly and

may be subject to long delays, which is not convenient if you have a tight schedule.

To transport products by road, weight, length and height must be taken into
account.
The railway transport

It is fast, environmentally friendly but can be very expensive, so that this shipment
is viable should be transported around 300 tons or more between sites linked by
railways and do not require any transport by road.

Air transport

It is the fastest to transport products over long distances but it is not very ecological
and very expensive. These shipments are made through cargo airlines and
scheduled aircraft, the cargo is usually loaded in kilograms and must be taken into
account fuel charges, customs duties, risk and VAT if you are importing.

The maritime transport

Compared to air transport, shipping products by sea is cheaper especially if we

ship in large volumes. However, transportation is slower and less flexible due to
the small number of ports, as this leads to contracting with other cargo companies
to move the products inland.

Finally we have messengers that are fast, reliable, safe but a little expensive. Due
to the capacity of their vehicles they can only transport a certain amount of weight
and in small distances.
