Tutor Feedback

The tutor provided feedback on lessons taught by Karyn Corbett. For the first lesson on February 7th, the tutor commented that the lesson plan was clearly articulated and objectives addressed cognitive and affective domains. LESSON PLAN
Elements of the lesson plan were clearly articulated, complete and
appropriate. However the concept/principle needs to be expanded. Lesson
objectives were well-constructed. They addressed the Cognitive and Affective
domains. HFLE outcomes were included. Lesson objectives were represented
by the cognitive levels of understanding, application and evaluation.
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
The set induction was represented by an engaging video. Teacher utilized
strong scaffolding and hence effective communication skills. Teacher’s
questioning skills were very effective. She asked probing questions to scaffold
learning and build critical thinking skills.
Activities and resources were appropriate for students’ levels of development
and culture. Instructional strategies selected included discussion, sharing of
responses by students, practical work and engaging in scenarios. These were
effectively executed. Formative assessment was varied and consisted of oral
questioning, lab activity, exit slip and scenario presentation. These were
effectively executed.
Closure was evident. It consisted of an exit ticket. This proved to be a good
engaging strategy.
Well planned and well delivered lesson.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Very good.
REFLECTION
Teacher was receptive to feedback from supervisor and peers. Teacher
reflected on strengths and weaknesses of the lesson. Teacher identified and
analyzed assumptions about self, the learner, the subject and the context.
Teacher made projections for the future. An insightful reflection.

UNIT PLAN
Unit plan demonstrated clear articulation and congruence among elements
with details. Teacher used a range of teaching models in the unit plan despite
her preference to direct instruction. Table of Specification was complete
although there were minor inaccuracies.
LESSON PLAN
Elements were clearly articulated, complete and appropriate with details.
Well-planned lesson. Lesson objectives were well-constructed and attainable
within the given time. They addressed the cognitive and affective domains. The
cognitive domain was represented by the following levels of understanding,
application, analyzing, evaluation and creation.
INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY
Set induction was an engaging video. Teacher exhibited good communication
skills. Teacher utilized effective questioning skills. Students asked many
questions. Students initiated active discussion and responded to each other’s
questions. However, teacher was called upon to answer too many questions
that students could have answered. Teacher needs to redirect questions to
other students. Probing questions were scaffold learning and build critical
thinking skills.
Activities and resources were appropriate for students’ level of development
and culture. The engaging strategy of group discussion and presentation was
effectively employed.
ICT were appropriately integrated through videos and power point.
Formative assessment was good as exemplified through oral questioning,
group presentations and colourful drawings.
Closure was evident. Teacher used an informative video. Lesson ended too
abruptly.
