warnings When possible always use model mode for
fault loop impedance calculations.
PowerCad-5 in local mode can only consider a single circuit and hence uses the 80% rule and the AC cable resistance
from AS/NZS3008:2009 for cables up to 120mm2 ( see note 3 clause B5.2.2), or if selected by the user, PowerCad-5 then
uses both the cable AC resistance and reactance from AS/NZS3008:2009 for all size cables. Then checks the protective
device clearance time based on the protective device high tolerance curve from the respective manufactures data.

PowerCad-5 in model mode calculates the fault loop impedance as per AS/NZS3000:2007 clause B4.4 using
the cable AC resistance and reactance from AS/NZS3008:2009 for any size cable, then checks the protective

Protective Device Manufacturers
Changing Protective Device Manufactures

Different Protective Device Manufacturers are permitted for:

• HV Protective Device
• LV Service Protective Device.
• Main Isolator.
• Main switches.
• Switchboard outgoing protective devices (all outgoing protective devices must be of the same
manufacturer).

Note: Equipment that require matching protective devices must have their upstream protective devices set to
the correct/matching manufacturer.

Example:
Variable speed drives. Allen-Bradley can be matched to either NHP or Terasaki as a protective device
manufacturer.
If Terasaki is selected as a protective device then the VSD must be selected as Terasaki–Allen-Bradley.

PowerCad-5 exports the single line diagram for each switchboard to AutoCAD. By default, PowerCad-5
opens the AutoCAD application, generates a drawing of the single line diagram as a .DWG file then closes
the AutoCAD application.

Note: The single line parameters listed/selected in the Export to AutoCAD Options dialog box also apply to
the print menu item 10 Single line Diagram.
