Question #1:
What are the critical qualities of Project Manager/ Leader in order to have
successful project outcome
It must be addressed that these qualities vary in importance and
significance from project to project, but in general are critical to evaluate
the role of Project Manager as a central brain of the whole Project
operation. A Project Manager has a substantial and real stake in the
project. Following Qualities must be taken into consideration when
selecting or probing any Project Manager or Leader in terms of success of
a project as a whole.
1. Dynamic in Nature: A Project manager with perpetual change is
always willing to accept new upcoming challenges, confront people
of different attitude in various aspects of a project, leading all
elements of a project with shear energy driven by crystal clear
vision and becoming constant source of instilling progress in a
project cycle.
2. Shared Vision and Teamwork: A Project manager always holds
together his crew in every step and stride of project, inspiring all the
team members with his vision and work-ethic and is able to collect
all the crew on a single platform, such that no one feels left behind.
Such a project manager brings about a positive change and
responsibility in his Team.
3. Knowledge with requisite skills: This constitutes most important
criterion for project manager as a professional apart from other
qualities, since it determines whether he is qualified enough for a
particular job. Knowledge being source element in managing apart
from delegating plays a vital role in deciding whether a leader is
able to withstand the challenges in his area of expertise. Knowledge
paves a road and is basis for all the other professional
developments along with skills.

4. Timely Decision-making and Problem-solving approach: A Project
manager must be able to make right decisions on right time
considering their impact on project cycle and outcome. In addition to
that, a project manager must have problem solving capabilities to
allow project to progress without suffering any delay. Both these
qualities are paramount in avoiding the cost-overrun and time-
consuming project loopholes.
5. Scope, Time and Resource management: A project manager has to
look over some integrals of project management which are
unavoidable, these are scope, time and resources of a project, and
are to be dealt with as per primary planning.
6. Justice, trust, compassion and accountability: Apart from project
elements, a project manager as a leader must keep his character
intact and be upright to a degree as per project responsibility
showing integrity and empathy and further should promote honesty
and good-dealing to project crew under his lead.
7. Level of Competence: This quality determines the manager’s ability
to excel and learn.
Question #2:
Differentiate between a Leader and a manager
A Leader is anyone who plays a role of prominent person leading by his
example and people follow his lead independent of the fact that leader
requires them to.
Whereas a Manager is anyone who plays a role of central authority
controlling and maneuvering the people who work for him dependent of
the fact that manager needs them to.
A Leader guides and inspires whereas a Manager is in charge and directs
and instructs.
