The Power of The Written Word - The Advice That Led to

$100M+ In Sales
Anik Singal: Every successful business person must be able to sell through the art of the written
word. Quotes by Justin Ford, my mentor who taught me copywriting. Let me say
that again. Every successful business person must be able to sell through the art of
the written word. What an incredible, incredible piece of advice that I got. I go back
and I think about this advice that I was given, and it blows my mind that it's not
taught. Even in marketing classes, it's not taught.

We go way back, go as far back as high school. I want to show you the fact that I
was a failing writer. In high school I was a overachiever. I was a smart kid, but I was
street smart. I wasn't book smart. I was in the best study groups. My friends were
the smart kids, so I could learn from them, mastermind with them, be in their study
groups, and so I was getting As, As, As. I was in all the advanced classes. I was doing
really well in school, and my dad made sure of it. It was very important to him that I
be smart.

Then I had writing, and so my approach to writing, this was in 11th grade, I had the
writing class, and I thought, "Whatever, writing. Write some words and you're
good." That's how I'd been writing so far, and I'd been getting As across the board.
Well I get my first written paper back. Of course, we had a week or two weeks to
write this paper. I waited until the last 30 minutes, and I wrote it, or something like
last three hours or something, I wrote it and I got back D minus, red all over it. I
thought, "What the heck. This teacher's lost her mind," and hence my dad began
the series of parent-teacher meetings, parent-counselor meetings. Get this kid's
grades up, and I worked hard, and I fought with my teacher, and my teacher hated
me, and one day my teacher told me, "You will never write. Please never write for a
living. You suck as a writer." Yes, this is my teacher, and I fought, fought, fought,
and I finally walked away with a B minus. Only B I ever got in high school. Could not
make it happen. Writing.

Can you believe that I have gone on to write multiple books. I've gone on to do
$120 million in sales from the art of writing, and so my whole journey goes this
way. That time, when she told me that, I was like I don't care, I'm going to be a
doctor. I could care less about this writing stuff. The only thing I'm going to be
writing is going to be prescriptions, so whatever. Was I wrong.

A couple years into college, I decide I hate this stuff, I want to go become a
businessman, I want to go become an entrepreneur. I switch over, I'm doing
finance. Still writing is nowhere near my realm of possibilities, and so I start to do
finance, and I quickly discover I don't like any of this either. I don't want to work for
anyone. I want to have my own business. So then I go and start looking up online,

and I find this world of online marketing, and so I start trying to figure out the
pieces. It's months and months and months go by, and I'm failing, failing, failing.

Well guess what. I didn't have any money, so I had to do these things myself. I
never even realized. I started wring sales pages. I started creating webpages. I
started writing emails. I started doing things like creating written copy for the
Internet. I just didn't know that's what it was called. I just had to do it out of
necessity.

So one day, my product is failing, I created this product called Better GPA, it was all
about how to improve your grades in school, and it was flopping. As a last ditch
effort, somebody introduced me to this gentleman named Justin Ford. They said,
"He has a product that targets parents. Maybe you can sell ... Maybe he'll sell your
product to these parents." So I thought, I'll try it.

Turns out, it was the wrong fit. He didn't actually target parents of college students,
which was what my book was written for, he targeted parents of little kids, infants
and all. So he writes back says, "Sorry, kid. Not going to happen. It's not the right
fit, but hey who wrote this page?" And I thought, "Oh, not this. I'm going to get ...
He's going to tell me my copy or what I wrote on that page is horrible." I was like,
"Oh, it was me, but you know, I'm going to make a lot of changes. I swear. This that
blah blah," and he says, "No, wait." He writes back. He says, "How'd you like to
work for me? I want to teach you how to be a copywriter." And I thought, "What?
Have you fricken' lost your mind, dude? What's wrong with you?" And I thought, "I
don't want to write. I'm not a writer." So I wrote back, I said, "Thanks for the offer,
no thank you." He writes back and he says, "I think you should reconsider. I'm
willing to pay you good money. I'll teach you a skill you need to have." I said, "No
thank you."

This guy didn't stop. He started to just mentor me without me even asking for it,
and it was awesome. I'm so thankful, so grateful today, and then finally one day he
said something. These words they changed my life. "Every successful business
person must be able to sell through the art of the written word." I remember, word
for word that's what he said. "Every successful business person must be able to sell
through the art of the written word." And at the time, I was like, "What the hell is
he talking about? What does that mean?" But it was one of those phrases that
caught my attention, so it had me, I was like, "All right, I'm in. Tell me more. What
are you talking about?"

Long story short, he made me a deal I couldn't refuse. He offered to fly me in for a
conference about copywriters. I would get a chance to meet Internet marketers,
and I was struggling, and he offered me good money. I didn't have any money. I just
needed to make some money, so I thought, all right let me just take this and I'll
figure things out.

Fast forward. Here I am today a copywriter. Done over $120 million in sales on the
Internet. I really want to give a shout out to Justin Ford for having taught me this

talent, okay? And all I can tell you is that what I learned 15 years ago is not
applicable today. It's different, and I'm so glad you're part of this community,
because I'm going to make you a master of it.

You absolutely need to be able to sell through the art of the written word. It is so
important. It is so so important. Guys, everything that happens, everything that
happens on the Internet, right? You're not there. You're not physically there. You
can't use your charm and smile and face to talk to someone to get them to buy. Lot
of you don't even want to do that. You don't want to be selling. So you have to put
this virtual presence on the Internet or on anywhere, that through words has to be
able to get someone to go through a wave of emotions to have a connection to
build a relationship that eventually leads to a purchase. The process of doing that is
a copywriter.

Copywriting has changed. Copywriter isn't just someone who just writes words. A
copywriter is someone who understand marketing, advertising, targeting,
consumer behavior, psychology. They understand the buying process and they
cater to it without ever having to have a human there. They cater to it virtually.
They cater to it with words, but the whole way of doing it has completely changed,
and that's what this course is about. That's why you're here, and I'm here to tell
you I would not even be close to where I am today if it wasn't through the power of
the written word.

I don't care if you don't want to be a consultant. I don't care if you don't want to
write for other people. I don't even care if you don't like writing, but if you want to
make money, if you want to be an entrepreneur successfully, learn it, master it.
This will be the number one skill you ever have, and I cannot say that more
proactively, more aggressively.

Look. If you go to Google and you search copywriter or copywriting course, it's nil
to none, people searching for it. I didn't create this course because I thought it was
a huge opportunity to make millions of dollars. I created this course, because I saw
the need for it, and I'm telling you that I put all this time and energy into it, because
this is the difference, this will make the difference.

So right now, do you want to be successful? Well, you're in the right place. The art
of the written word. Every successful business person must be able to sell through
the art of the written word. Take those words. Memorize them. Put them on your
mirror. Take this course. Be very serious. I am so excited you're here. Listen. Every
successful business person needs to go through this course. All right?

Copywriting is the number one skill you'll ever develop. It's not just writing words.
It's marketing. It's psychology. It's understanding consumer behavior. It's getting
the sale. You've got to be able to do it. I'm so proud of you for being here.
Remember when life pushes you, stand straight, smile and push it the heck back.
Am I right?
