It is important to us the value of social literacy.Social literacy is an essential precondition
for the successful preparation of children to participate in the life of their communities and in
understanding their rights and duties within a democratic society. If im a mother I will teach my
child the appropriate social literacy.Social literacy spans across interacting with peers, family,
coworkers, teachers, and even people we may not have met face to face. It is important when a
child comminicate with other people. While he/she is young teach a child to interact and
playing with peers, teach the child to respect the elders, show them the non verbal
comminication that show respect like waving hands when saying hello, pagmamano to the
elders, proper greeting to everyone. It is also important to assist the child when attending social
gathering like birthday party, and sunday school. And while she is young you need to gather
them to church to build strong relationship to the Lord and how to act accordingly when in
church, school and when in home.Friendships also give children opportunities to practice more
advanced social skills, like problem-solving and conflict resolution. Teach the basic social
interaction like,Polite - greet others with smile,make eye contact,Talk with respect,call a person
by his/her name,Respect the elders and respect for majorities opinion,Teaches the non verbal
communication that shows greeting like waving hands, pagmamano, at po at opo.Expressing
emotions,Listening,Saying thank you and sorry.Teach my child the way of Respect - when
others talking wait for her to finish before you speak.Attend sunday church team building and
sunday school,Allow my child to attend social gathering to boost social confidence. Offer your
help to others. Thats all I can teach my child a good social skills also can help kids have a
brighter future.
Social literacy skills are a set of skills that need ongoing refinement as your kids get older.
They aren’t something your child either has or doesn’t have. Look for teachable moments
where you can help your kids do better. Ill start to teach my child with the most basic social
skills first and keep sharpening the child’s skills over time. These are sharing, willingness to share
a snack or share a toy can go a long way to helping kids make and keep friends. Cooperating
means working together to achieve a common goal. Kids who cooperate are respectful when
others make requests. Listening isn’t just about staying quiet—it means really absorbing what
someone else is saying. Listening also is a critical component of healthy communication.
Following direction like asking, “Would you please pick up your toys now?”Respecting Personal
Space like create household rules that encourage kids to respect other people’s personal space.
“Knock on closed doors,” and told to her that if she grabs things out of people’s hands or
pushes when impatient, establish consequences. Some kids struggle to look at the person
they’re speaking to and they are shy talking to a other person so good eye contact is an
important part of communication.
I heard this saying from the book of Proverbs, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and
when he is old, he will not depart from it." So as a parent or mother it is important to play a
major role in incoporating social literacy to your child. And it help the child in a proper way to
communicate and interact with other people.
