(b) Explain any four (4) applications of wireless networks and the devices used.
APPLICATION OF WIRELESS NETWORKS
1. Making Calls Using Phones.
Cellular communication is one of the most used application of wireless networks where people
call each other on a global scale using radio waves. In this case communication of these radio
waves is being leveraged by bouncing these radio waves from one cell tower to the other in a
form of a network that can triangulate down to the receiver’s phone antennae.
2. Connecting Devices Likes Smart Phones to other electronic devices.
Bluetooth technology is another form of wireless communication which is mostly used to
connect devices to each other. The popular use case being playing music from the phone to an
external speaker without using any form of physical connection between them.
For this to work both devices should have enabled their Bluetooth functionality which is a short-
range low-energy radio wave. These waves allow devices to form a network to which they can
access and connect to each wirelessly.
Bluetooth technology use cases can be stretched to transferring data from one device to another,
internet of things device connectivity just to mention a few.
3. Accessing the Internet Using Smart Phones or Computers.
Wi-Fi technology is a popular form of wireless network application that people use everyday to
access the internet. In this case radio frequencies are being moved around and send through
network routers.
The use cases are endless from making calls, transferring data, messaging, downloading and
uploading content just to mention a few.
4. For Locating and Tracking Electronic Devices.
Tracking and locating electronic devices is being done through wireless networks facilitated by
geostationary satellites up in the earth’s orbit. Satellite communication technology allows
satellites to communicate with devices here on earth. This enables us to know where each
electronic device is located anywhere on earth, this is commonly known as Global Positioning
System.
