4). Introduction to subject: -. A measurement is process of determining quantity of something (say size
or length). Metrology is study of measurements. There are Industrial metrology (functioning of
instruments used in industry, testing process and production) & medical metrology (measurements that
influence health and safety).
Measurement is the process of giving single or multiple values to the characteristics of an object or
property by doing some experiments to know the value of the particular property. These properties may
be physical or chemical like length, weight, volume, angle, molls, liter etc.
a). Relevance to Branch: Metrology is concerned with the establishment, reproduction, conservation and
transfer of units of measurement & their standards. For engineering purposes, metrology is restricted
to measurements of length and angle & quantities which are expressed in linear or angular terms.
b). Relevance to Society: Measurements have been carried out for as long as civilization has
existed. Metrology is basic to the economic and social development of a country. It is concerned with
providing accurate measurements which impact our economy, health, safety and general well-being
c). Relevance to Self: The purpose of engineering design is to convey all the information that is
necessary for the manufacturing team to create the correct parts that enable the assembly to run smoothly
and create a finished product that is of the highest standard.
d). Relation with laboratory: Measurement is the process of experimentally obtaining quantity values
that can reasonably be attributed to a property of a body or substance. Metrology is the science
of measurement. Metrology is also a fine avenue for discussing accuracy, error, and calibration.
e). Connection with previous year: While the basic objective of a measurement is to provide the required
accuracy at minimum cost, metrology would have further objective in a modern engineering plant with
different shops like Tool Room, Machine Shop, Press Shop, Plastic Shop, Pressure Die Casting Shop,
Electroplating and Painting Shop, and Assembly Shop.

d). Introduction & Conclusion: Each subject, unit and topic shall start with introduction & close with
conclusion. In case of the subject, it is Zero lecture.
e). Time Distribution in lecture class: -Time allotted: 60 min.
i. First 5 min. should be utilized for paying attention towards students who were absent for last lecture
or continuously absent for many days + taking attendance by calling the names of the students and
also sharing any new/relevant information.
ii. Actual lecture delivery should be of 45 min.
iii. Last 5 min. should be utilized by recapping/ conclusion of the topic. Providing brief introduction of
the coming up lecture and suggesting portion to read.
iv. After completion of any Unit/Chapter a short quiz should be organized.
v. During lecture student should be encouraged to ask questions.
Note: Pl. ensures that each student is having Lecture Note Book. Also, write on the black board day and
date, name of the teacher, name of subject with code, unit and lecture no. and topics to be covered at the
beginning of each lecture and ensure that students write in lecture note book. Ask students to leave 4/5
pages blank for copying the note from fellow students in case of their absenteeism.
8). Tutorial: - An essential component of Teaching- Learning process in Professional Education.
