Observation: Boy A was sitting at art table with a variety of materials to choose to use for his art project.
He removed a pipe cleaner from a plastic bag using his left hand to grasp it. He touched teachers arm
and said to her “can you cut it into small pieces”. The teacher asked him after cutting first piece if that is
the right size? He replied “yes” He picked up and held pipe with his left hand and rubbed glue stick on
pipe cleaner using his right hand. He placed pipe cleaner on brown bag using left hand and moving
already placed popsicle stick by brushing arm over bag. He states, “I need more glue for his stick”. He
held stick with left hand while using his right hand to rub glue on stick. He maneuvered popsicle stick
around to different angles with fingers as he covered it with glue. He then chose to pick up and use yarn.

motor developmental skills by the exercising of small muscles
Analysis: The child was able to manipulate material by using and strengthening fine motor skills. He was
able to implement his creative design by using his hand eye coordination and small muscles.

Observation: Boy A and B are outside playing on playground equipment. Boy A is standing on step as he
leans body forward and places both hands on monkey bars. While gripping bars he steps off and is
hanging from monkey bar. Boy B tells him to “Move Now” and Boy A responds, “I am” He continues to
hang from bar. Boy B pushes Boy A’s back with his hand. Boy A giggles with a smile. Boy A moves his
harms to next bar leading with right hand and is now gripping bar with both hands. He releases his
hands grip on bar and drops to ground. He runs to different equipment. Boy B calls for Boy A and says
“Come get me!”

Analysis: The boys demonstrated having a grasp on using social skills and self-initiation in the
observation of them playing and interacting together. They engaged in verbal communication and both
engaged in play.

Observation: Child was participating in a group music and movement activity. The song began playing
the verse with directions for body movement. Child placed both hands in his front pockets. Bobbed his
head and moved his shoulders forward. He then spined body around with hands inside pockets three
times around. He then planted feet with body facing teacher as he started to shift/rock hips side to side in
rhythm of song. He the squats bringing his bottom to the ground and then stood up. He then stated “I am
not doing it that way” as he slightly lifted left and then slightly put right foot out.

Analysis: He expressed himself creatively during music and movement by making his own movements to
learn the songs rhythm.

Observation: Children are sitting on carpet in front of teacher during Storytime. Teacher shows cover of
book to students as she reads the title. She asks the children to look at the pictures on the cover and then
asks them what they think the story will be about. Child A says, “I don’t know”. Child B says, “Its about
Elmo”. Child C says, “It is about monsters and going to town” Child C also shared that he is not afraid of
monsters. Teacher then acknowledged their responses but was interrupted by Child B saying, “Open it
and get reading”

Analysis: The children used information presented on cover to help them make predictions about the
book. This was a good example of knowing how to use different aspects of print to understand a story,
their participation in discussion and feedback given indicated appreciation of books and understanding
of print.

Observation: Children were sitting at a table with teacher seated at the end. Toward the end of learning
experience the teacher announced that he questions for them. He asked the class about a time they felt
“happy”. Boy D stated “Well I feel happy..umm when I am when I go on a plane” Teacher asked him
“OH have you been on a plane before”. Boy D replied, “No I never did”. The teacher asked him if that is
something he would like to do? He replied “Yes”.

Analysis: The child listened to the teacher questions and was able to respond to the teacher
communication with answers that allowed back and forth dialogue. This demonstrates a grasp on
language development and communication by engaging in communication process.

Observation: Child held cardboard roll using right hand. He placed in paint and slightly twisted it. He
then began to to stamp roll down speedily around the pumpkin’s shapes perimeter. He then re-dipped
roll and began stamping repeatedly in one area before stamping vertically upwards on pumpkin. He then
dipped roll three times in paint and stamped roll in a variety of directions on pumpkin. He then took roll
and placed it in paint on side. He took roll and rolled it on side onto the paper.

Analysis: The child showed ability to show curiosity and engagement by using material with interest. He
repeatedly used methods of refining his efforts in engaging in the art activity shows he has a grasp on
skills found in the Approaches to Learning Domain.

Observation: He adapted his physical position to meet expectations and be able to see material. Child V
was sitting on floor with his arms to side and hands faced palms down. He had legs crossed. Child used
his sight and hearing to make two observations. 1) He sees and verbally identifies the alien on page. 2) He
identified and verbalized that the home book was referring to be the space ship.

Observation: Child H was sitting by herself on the teachers chair with a visual aide for song. She held
with both hands a folder with a kite shaped opening facing her face. She sang “do you see the yellow kite
flying up high in the sky?” The then switched colored paper in folder using left hand to hold folder and
right hand to insert red paper. She then began singing “Do you see the red kite flying up high in the
sky?” She continued switching out color papers in folder and reciting verse by adding different color to
it.

Analysis: Her ability to recite song by memory and use visual aides to bring meaning to lyrics
demonstrated her grasp on skills like exploration and discovery found in the domain of cognition and
knowledge,

Observation: The Ages and Stages SE 2 was reviewed. Child scored within the cutoff on the scoring
chart for social emotional skills and development appears to be on schedule. This checklist did show
concerns with sleeping with such as fears while sleeping waking up with “vivid dreams”. There are no
concerns with toileting or eating.

Analysis: Based on review of this developmental check list, the parent will be provided education
materials related to bedtime routines and calming bedtime fears. Child is on track for appropriate social

Observation: The Ages and Stages ASQ 3 was reviewed. Child in sufficient in all areas of development
including Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving and Personal Social Skills. The
parent did not indicate any concerns for hearing, vision, speech or medical concerns.

Analysis: Based on review of this developmental check list, no further action is needed at this time. Child
