Distance learning, which has been in use since 1892, has gained prominence during the pandemic as a means to prevent virus spread in schools. However, many students face challenges such as ineffective learning, lack of social interaction, and difficulties due to inadequate access to technology and the internet. The negative impacts of distance learning have led to calls for a return to in-person education with health protocols in place.

Distance Learning

Distance learning is the education of students who may not always be physically present at
school. Traditionally, this usually involved correspondence courses wherein the students
correspondence with the school via post. Distance learning is not a new method in education system.
Based on Wikipedia, this learning method had used in the United States since 1892 when the university
of Chicago launched its first distance learning program for higher education. Even in Indonesia bthere
are universities which had been implementing for along time the distance learning, for example is
Universitas Terbuka.

For now distant learning had been implementing during Pandemic. The purpose is anticipate the
spread of the virus in school. In implementation of distance learning, often times the students feel
difficult, because many teachers that just give theory in the form of text and assignment without explain
about it. So how the students can understand if the teacher doesn’t explain material. In a day the
student can get more than 3 assignment and they must send the answer with the time that set by
teachers. It can be a pressure for students and they can be stressed because of this

Many students are disappointed with it, the reason is they have to buy internet packages. It will
be difficult for students and their parents. Not all areas have good internet access and not all students
have Cell phone and laptop, and maybe this tools are not exist in their area. So how about the students
in 3T (terdepan, terluar, tertinggal) areas?

Not only that, even Mr. Nadiem Makarim Indonesian Minister Education said “we risk having
learning loss, lost generation, where the permanent impact on our generation, especially the younger
level”.

During the implementation of distance learning many negative impact are felt by student. Based
on kompasiana.com it’s negative impact are

1. Less effective learning system.

2. Students will find it more difficult to understand the material studied.
3. Lack of social interaction between friends or teachers and students
4. Students will overestimate this learning system and as result they find it difficult to understand
the lesson.
5. They sometimes forgot about their assignment that given by teachers

If distance learning is felt to have a negative impact, why is this method still being used. So,
about this motion I’m strongly disagree with the implementation of distance learning. this only
makes it more difficult for some students who can't follow the program. It will be better if we keep
go to school but take turns and stick to health protocol
