IN APPROXIMATED COMPUTING, RESULT ACCURACY OF COMPUTATION CAN BE

COMPROMISED, BASED ON THE FACT THAT INEXACT RESULTS ARE SATISFACTORY FOR
PURPOSE. MAIN SCHEMES TO IMPLEMENT THIS CONCEPT IS EITHER TO USE ADDERS,
MULTIPLIERS AND OTHER LOGICAL CIRCUITS. ELSE WE CAN USE STORAGE TO MIMIC THE
BEHAVIOR OF CERTAIN APPLICATION OR COMPONENT OR CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR OF LOOPS
OR WE CAN IGNORE THE LEAST SIGNIFICANT BITS. THERE ARE NUMBER OF SCENARIOS,
WHERE IS APPLICATION OF APPROXIMATED COMPUTING IS POSSIBLE LIKE AUGMENTED
REALITY WHERE RECONSTRUCTION IS REQUIRED OR WEB SITE WHERE MULTIPLE RELATED
BUT NOT SO EXACT RESULTS ARE ENOUGH OR SOUND/VIDEO WHERE COMPROMISE ON
QUALITY DOES NOT LOSS IT ESSENCE OR IN DECISION MAKING PROCESS LIKE MACHINE

LEARNING TECHNIQUES.

I HAVE CONDUCTED A DETAILED LITERATURE REVIEW ABOUT DIFFERENT TYPES OF DEEP

NEURAL NETWORKS ARCHITECTURE LIKE GOOGLENET, RESNET, LENET AND VGG. I HAVE
STUDIED THE DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES OF APPROXIMATION WITHIN DEEP NEURAL
NETWORK LAYERS. AS THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF APPROXIMATION POSSIBLE INCLUDING
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE IMPLEMENTATION, WE ARE CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH COST
ANALYSIS IN TERMS ENERGY AND POWER FOR COMPUTATION.

I HAVE ALREADY RESEARCH EXPERIENCE WITH CPR(CORRELATION PATTERN RECOGNITION).

SO, I HAVE DIRECTLY IN IMPLEMENTATION STAGE OF APPROXIMATION VERSION OF THESE
TECHNIQUES USING UNROLLING AND FUNCTIONAL APPROXIMATION.

I AM CURRENTLY CONTACTING A LITERATURE REVIEW ABOUT DIFFERENT APPROXIMATION

TECHNIQUES FOR PSO AND ALGORITHM OPTIMIZATION.

39. Goals of proposed visit to foreign university/ institute (minimum 200 words)

TO GAIN THE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FROM INTERNATIONALLY ESTABLISHED RESEARCH GROUP

IN MY FIELD OF RESEARCH.

HERE WE ARE PROPOSING THE CASE STUDIES OF IOT IMPLEMENTATIONS OF APPROXIMATE

COMPUTING FOR DEEP NEURAL NETWORK(DNN), PARTICLES OF SWARM OPTIMIZATION(PSO) AND
CORRELATION PATTERN RECOGNITION (CPR). AS THESE ALGORITHM TECHNIQUES HAVE WIDE
RANGE OF APPLICATIONS. BY APPROXIMATING THESE TECHNIQUES FOR LIGHT WEIGHT
PROCESSING IMPLEMENTATION IN IOTS, WE WILL STRENGTHEN DECISION MAKING CAPABILITY OF
IOTS

TO IMPLEMENT HARDWARE OF APPROXIMATED VERSION OF DEEP LEARNING ALGORITHMS, CPR

AND PSO ALGORITHMS.

TO ESTABLISH TEST BENCH FOR CONDUCTING DETAIL VALIDATION OF MY HARDWARE/SOFTWARE

DESIGN.

TO TEST MY APPROACH ACROSS DIFFERENT LEVEL OF APPROXIMATION, LIKE

APPLICATION/ALGORITHM, CIRCUIT AND ARCHITECTURAL LEVEL.

40. Brief justification and plan of study (minimum 200 words)

In defense of this thesis statement, I intend to offer the following contributions:

In defense of this thesis statement, I intend to offer the following contributions:

Development of approximate computing version of Correlation Pattern Recognition(CPR) techniques. The proposed
implementation will allow computationally intensive Automatic Target Recognition to be lightweight process.

Development of approximate computing model for Particle of Swarm (PSO) techniques The proposed execution will
enable IoT implementation to select best solution of problem.

Development of approximate computing model for Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques The proposed model
will improve the iterative learning process.

43. Research facilities availability in Pakistan for scholar’s research topic.

Very limited computing resources are available.

44. What are the socio-economic benefits of this research?

45. What is the time span by which country will start benefitting of this research?

Depending on available resources it time span is one two years.

How would the scholar conduct his PhD thesis related research if he doesn’t get selected for 6 months research
