NETWORK MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT 1

Question: Prepare a maximum of 2 pages’ discussion bringing out the result of your research on Swivel
Chair Interface and your impression of how you think Network Management Provide optimal solutions.
A swivel chair interface, sometimes known as swivel chair integration, is a system for computer
input and interaction that requires users to move from one interface to another, sometimes duplex work.
The term is a reference to environments, like a pre-computer office, where the user would interact with
one system and then use the chair's swivel function to physically move to another system. In that case, the
user might be swiveling between file cabinets and a typewriter. In modern use, the swivel chair is a
metaphor for the space between the separate interfaces.
Swivel chair integration has its own problems and is not sustainable for the long run. It has its own
operational cost, i.e. the cost of 3-5 human resources working to move data from one system to another.
More than the cost itself, it is error prone and does not position the organization to create business
advantage by having truly integrated systems. Organizations fail to realize the true networking effect of
data. The value of data being available at the right time and the right place is not available to such
organizations. So, one would wonder why in this age of high technology and availability of the
middleware and integration platforms would one still use a primitive way of integrating systems in the
enterprise? Are not their tons of middleware products available there? Clearly, there are compelling
reason to choose swivel chair integration for the sake of speed and the cost of adopting new systems and
meeting aggressive project timelines.
Similarly, system administrators in those days would perform operations manually, moving from one
system to another. Unified interfaces and remote monitoring have transformed the administrator's job.
Unified network management matter because of its common network functionality, such as
planning, provisioning, configuring, monitoring (including performance, security and integrity), handling
exceptions, logging and reporting. This console will also need the additional elements unique to wireless
management, including connection reliability, spectrum management and monitoring, location and
tracking functionality, as well as additional security concerns. Even then, some wireless experts believe
that certain wireless functions will have to be maintained separately.
We all know that the IT Infrastructure has a life of its own. In the vast majority of organizations, the
infrastructure evolves over time rather than being designed as a whole. This applies to all of the
underlying components: the servers, the storage and an area very easy to overlook - the network or
networks that tie everything together.
Today, anyone surveying the market will notice that several vendors are beginning to talk about ’network
convergence ‘with the idea that, ultimately, organizations will be able to use a single physical network
that is essentially utilized to manage as many ’virtual networks ‘as may be required to service the varying
needs of the business.
Network management refers to the processes, tools and applications used to administer, operate
and maintain a network infrastructure. Performance management and fault analysis are also included in
network management. To put it simply, network management is the process of keeping your network
healthy, which keeps your business healthy.
just as you need regular check-ups to stay healthy, so does your business. Your digital network is the
circulatory system that channels data to all parts of the business. Just as you need to care for your heart to
keep your body healthy, you need to monitor your network infrastructure to ensure your business is well
