Mock Interview Report (20% of final grade)
Overview
The mock interview exercise is designed to emulate a real-life interview situation, where students will have the
opportunity to act as both the Applicant and Interviewer. Students will do the required preparation work for both roles
and receive feedback on their overall performance.
Students will gain a better understanding of the interview process and gain some additional skills to excel in a job
interview.
Evaluation
Part 1: Panel Interview (Group) - 10.0%
Part 2: Applicant (Individual) - 10.0%
Part 1: Panel Interview (10%)
Each Panel will interview a number of Applicants for the same position. Based on the Applicants interview performance the
Panel will select the best Applicant for the job. Each Panel is responsible for the following.
Part 1a) - Prior to Conducting Interviews (5%)
Due: Apr 20/22, prior to class
Submit via Blackboard your Panel’s Appendix A - Only submit 1 per Panel
Research the job/position they are conducting the interviews for.
Using Appendix A create a list of questions and expected answers for the specific job posting. I suggest two (2)
questions for each category so each Applicant is asked a slightly different set of questions (I will be looking for this).
Also, should you need more time then you have additional questions to refer to.
Part 1b) – Interview (5%)
Interview each Applicant based on the questions you prepared.
o Each Interview will be approx. 20 min. I will be watching your timing.
o After each interview spend 2-3 minutes to write down your comments and impressions of each Applicant.
Evaluate each Applicant using Appendix B. Each Panel member MUST evaluate all Applicants and complete an
Evaluation Form. Note: I will be returning these forms to each of the Applicant’s so ensure you provide thoughtful
and helpful feedback.

Meet with your Panel and discuss the merits of each Applicant.
Choose the “Best Applicant for the Job”.
Due End of Day of Interview, submit a short Panel discussion (500-750 words) on how you selected your “Best
Applicant for the Job”. Was it based solely on the score or were there other factors that you considered?
Ensure to include all your Panel member’s names on the document. Note: If any member of your Panel did not
contribute to this assignment then do not include their name and let your Instructor know.
Part 2: Applicant (10%) - Individual
Each student will prepare the following two parts for this section of the assignment.
Part 2a) (2.5%)
Each student will evaluate the Panel they were interviewed by.
Use Appendix C for evaluation purposes.
This should be completed right after your interview so your thoughts and impressions are fresh on your mind. You
are expected to evaluate the Panel honestly. I will look at this closely. Be frank and provide proper/constructive
feedback. This will only help your classmates as they prepare for their career search.
Part 2b) (7.5%)
Students will prepare a 1-page personal reflection on both Parts of the assignment.
1 . Part 1 - Panel Interviewer Reflection
General thoughts on being on the “Interviewer side of the table”.
What did you gain from this experience that may be helpful to you in your next interview?
2. Part 2 - Applicant Reflection
Outline what you did well; what needs improvement and an action plan for personal growth in this area.
Discuss the process, what did you learn about yourself, how can you improve for the next time.
