Maximum wheel load = RA = 200 + 640(40 – 1.2)/40 = 820.8 kN
Maximum load per wheel = 820.8/2 = 410.4 = 420 kN (assumed) 40 m

= 420 × 2 × 15/180 = 70 kN = 70/15 kN/m = 4.67 kN/m.

Maximum LLSF = 420 + 420(15 – 4.75)/15 = 707 kN.
Considering 25% impact for EOT crane, LLSF = 1.25 × 707 = 884 kN [Cl. 6.3.a of IS: 875 (II) – 1987]
Shear force due to 70 kN of DL = 70/2 = 35 kN
So, Total SF = 884 + 35 = 919 kN.
Arrangement of maximum LLBM: 4.75/2 = 2.375m

= 35 × 6.31 – 4.67 × 6.312/2 = 128 kN – m
Total maximum bending moment = 2790 + 128 = 2918 kN – m
Transverse load per wheel = (1/4)[(1/10)(140+500)] = 16 kN [due to braking of crab unit; Cl. 6.3.c.1 of IS: 875(II)]
Maximum transverse SF = (16/420)×707 = 27 kN
Maximum transverse BM = (16/420)×2232 = 86 kN – m.

Limiting bending moment developed = 1.5 × 86 = 129 kN – m << 1643 kN – m (O.K.)
Now, interaction check: (cl. 9.3.1.1, pg 70)
Now, N = 1.5 × 42 = 63 KN; Nd = Agfy / γm0 =14050.9 kN [since, Ag = 67200 mm2, fy = 230 Mpa, γm0 = 1.1 (Table
5, pg 30)]
N/Nd + My/Mdy + Mz/Mdz = (63/14050.9) + (4377/5952) + (129/1643) = 0.818 < 1.0 (O.K.)
Steel grade used here as E250 (Fe410W)A, as tw = 8 mm and fy = 250 Mpa, so, εf = (250/fy)0.5 = 1.0 [from Table 1]
From Cl. 8.6.1.2 of IS: 800 – 2007, pg 64; d/tw =1200/8 = 150 < 345 (εf )2 = 345.
So, compression flange buckling will not occur.
Now, refer, Cl. 8.7.4, pg 67; Fw = (b1+n2)twfyw/ γm0
Let, b1 = 200 mm, n2 = 2 × 2.5 × 40 = 200
Local capacity of web at connection = Fw = (200+200) × 8 × 250/1.1 = 727.3 × 103 N = 727.3 kN
Factored reaction = 1.5 × 919 = 1379 kN > 727 kN
So, end stiffeners will be required.
