Pneumatic Sorting System Guide

The document discusses a student project to program a pneumatic sorting system using CX-programmer software. The sorting system uses different sensors - photoelectric, inductive, and capacitive - to detect material type and direct materials into collection boxes. While the students focused on programming, the lecturer handled the hardware aspects. The objective was for students to improve programming skills for automated sorting processes and understand their real-world applications in industries. In conclusion, the students completed the programming portion on time by identifying addresses and designing a sorting process in CX-programmer, though the lecturer assisted with the hardware components.

0 INTRODUCTION

In this project of Fluid Drive System, each of members were contributed on how to create
the programming using CX-programmer software about the sorting process so it can move an
materials in desired order but we did not do the hardware part because it is already done by
lecturer. Furthermore, we would like to design a sorting process with programming by using
pneumatic system. Sorting machine usually incorporated production industries usually in
production line and assembly line. Sorting process is responsible to separate the materials that
have been produced into collection boxes. This process is basically operates by using sensors
and actuators. Conveyor is basically actuators of the sorting system where the product is
moved pass through several sensors to detect the type of materials and sort in the collection
boxes according to what the machine have been programmed to do. Conveyor is constructed
by using conveyor belt and motors as part of the whole system.

Pneumatic system is to use compressed air to transmit and control energy. Most of
pneumatic system are used extensively in various industries. This is provided by the air
compressor. The compressor suck in air from the atmosphere and store it in a high pressure
tank. This compressed air is the supplied to the system through a series of pipes and valves.

The sensors are used to detect the type of the materials whether it is metal or non-metal.
We are using the Photoelectric Sensor to sense the presence of materials, Inductive Sensor to
detect the metal materials and Capacitive Sensor to detect the non-metal materials. All
photoelectric sensors operate under similar principles. Identifying their output is thus made
easy; dark-on and light-on classifications refer to light reception and sensor output activity. If
output is produced when no light is received, the sensor is dark-on. If output is produced from

light received so the sensor light-on. Unfortunately, Inductive Sensor is only detects metal
such as stainless steel, reduce sensing distance. For example, sensing end-of-travel of a
pneumatic or motor-driven actuator and sensing metal objects are common applications for
an inductive proximity switch.

2.0 OBJECTIVE

In this project, the main objective are:

1. To improve the skills and practical done by the students in programming software about
sorting process.

2. To enable the students to be cleared information about the automated part sorting process.
3. To analyse the information about the real usage of the system especially in industry field.

7.0 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we finished the project based on the time that had been given by lecturer. In
finishing the project, we able to understand more detail about how sorting process work in
pneumatic system. In this project, we just identify address and create programming part using
CX-programming but did not do the hardware part because it was too late to do so the
lecturer helps our group in doing hardware part. Before doing programming part, we should
identify each address first in order to design the sorting process could be work based on the
plan with the ladder diagram that have constructed in the CX-programming.
