What is what in Troux and excels – Glossary about Glossaries
Structure in Troux
Swedbank Group Glossary section in Troux contains several Domains. Domain is a group of
glossaries made for some special reason. All Baltic Banking glossaries (which are in excels at
the moment) will be under domain ’Baltic Banking DW Domain’. Other domains which we
possibly will use are ’BIM Domain’ and ’Classifiers Domain’. Everything else we can ignore at
the moment.
Under Baltic Banking DW Domain’ we see 2 groupings of services – ’Business Services’ and
’Information Services’. Under service group we have a list of Glossaries (services).
o 1 glossary = 1 service = 1 excel
o Glossary is owned by 1 person (person who can do changes in glossary)

There is a possibility that Glossary has subglossaries – just for better structuring.
Structure of Glossary Excel
Every Attribute must belong to some entity in same Excel
Also lended Attributes must belong to some entity in same Excel
Relations between Entities (except one case which is described below) will be described in
Troux, not in excel. Relations between Entities will be helpful when we want to have picture
of Glossary (like data model).
ENTITY
It is good to have entity name in capital letters - gives better overview in Troux as there is no
possibility to show Entities and Attributes differently in Troux.
Entity should also have description !
column ’ is value of’ – empty
column ’is part of’ – empty (ment only for attributes!)
column ’has general concept’ - name of another entity from same excel in case entity is subentity
of another. For example : Entity ’CHANNEL’ has subentity ’POS CHANNEL’. Then for POS CHANNEL
column ’has general concept’ has a name of master entity – CHANNEL.
For Entity there should be filled (and nothing else) :
Concept ID, Concept Name, Concept Description, Concept Type and Glossary ID. And optional :
’has general concept’ when needed.
Attribute
You can have your own attribute or you can borrow a attribute from another glossary. In both case it
must belong to some entity in your glossary excel.
Own Attribute
column ’is value of’ - empty
column ’is part of’ - name of the Entity (from same excel) to where this attribute belongs
column ’has general concept’ - empty
For your own Attribute there should be filled (and nothing else) :
Concept ID, Concept Name, Concept Description, Concept Type ,Glossary ID, ’is part of’. All these
columns are mandatory!
Also Layer_name, Storage Object and Storage Column should be filled for Attribute. Use layer
EDW_CL if it is possible ! If these fields are empty in excel then nothing bad happens, then filling
the storage information must be done later in Troux.
Borrowed Attribute
For borrowed Attributes the mandatory fields are Concept ID, Concept Type, Glossary ID and ’is
part of’. Concept name and description is not loaded from this glossary . But also borrowed attribute
must belong to some Entity in this excel. Glossary ID must be the name of the Glossary from where
the attribute is borrowed.
Possible solutions for attribute borrowing:
1) Simple borrowing: just refer. to some attribute defined in another glossary with no additional
information. In that case columns A,D,E,G (Concept ID, Concept Type, Glossary ID and ’is
part of’) should be filled
2) Borrowing with additional storage: refer to attribute in another glossary and fill storage
information. Columns A,D,E,G,I,J,K,L. In this case storage information for borrowed attribute
will be extended, it will point to several storage columns. Can’t give any example when it
should be used.
3) Create a synonym. This option allows to change attribute name. In order to create a
synonym, all attribute columns should be filled like for other „own“ attributes. And link to
original attribute should be created in ‚concept relation‘ sheet with relation type ‘is same as’
where in left side is own attribute Concept ID and Concept Name and in right side is a
original attribute for which you wanted to have a synonyme.
Value
Concept_type ’Value’ will not be loaded to Troux. They can exist in excel or deleted from there,
doesn’t make any difference . Values of classificators will be joined already in Troux (by glossary
owner) using classificators from Classifiers Domain. At the moment list of Classifiers is not complete
in Troux but it will refreshed in nearest future.
Relations between Entities
At the moment there was only 1 possibility to describe relation between entities – ’Has general
concept’ . To get nice picture of Glossary (using new Visualization tool) we have added one more
possibility. For that we must add 1 new column in sheet ’CONCEPTS’
After column G (’is part of’) insert new column and name it as ’ Related to Entity (Concept ID)’. It is
ment for describing relation between the attribute to some other Entity.
