Design of a Pressure vessel
AIM: To determine the thickness of the pressure vessel for the given problem and
draw it in solid works by considering vessel having tori spherical head.
A process vessel is to be designed for the maximum operating pressure of 500 kN/m2.
The vessel has the nominal diameter of 1.2m and tangent to tangent length of 2.4m.
The vessel is made of IS:2002-1962 Grade 2B quality steel having allowable stress
value 118MN/m2 at working temperature. The corrosion allowance is suggested to be
2mm for the life span expected for the vessel. The vessel is to be fabricated according
to class 2 of Indian standard specifications which stipulated joint efficiency (0.85).
THEORY:
1. Pressure vessels are used to store and transmit liquids, vapors, and gases under
pressure in general. The pressure of these finds will exert pressure equally in all
direction on the walls and ends of the pressure vessels. Because of the internal
loading, stresses are including on certain sections of the cylinder (pressure vessel)
wall.
2. The pressure vessels (cylindrical or spherical tanks) are generally used in engineering
to store fluid under pressure.
3. The Pressure vessels are used fluid to store such as liquid vapors and gases under
pressure. Major uses of pressure vessels are as follows.
• Pressure vessels are used in steam boilers
• Pressure vessels are also used in storage of chemical in chemical plants
• Use in storage of petroleum products (petrol, diesel etc)
• It is also used in engine cylinders.

PROCEDURE:
1. As per the given question a pressue vessel is designed according to the given
conditions and specifications using Solidworks.
2. A thickness of 0.5mm was used to design the pressue vessel but for
representational purposes a thickness of 5 mm was used.
RESULT:
Report the thickness and drawing
DISCUSSION:
As shown above, Front view and Top view of the desired vessel was constructed
