ABSTRACT
The students industrial work experience Scheme established by the federal
government of Nigeria was aimed to exposing students of higher institution to
acquire industrial skills and practice experience in their approved courses of study
and also to prepare these students for the industrial work situation which they are
likely to meet after graduation. This technical report is based on the experience
gain during my six months of industrial training at LUCKY FIBER PLC/OE
STANLEY ELECTRICALS I got so much experience about electromechanical
inductions rewinding of electrical motors and also computer programed machines,
transferring and producing goods of different varieties from one plant to another.
Setting up of industrial automation movement of RUGS mechanical applications of
production machine to the packaging stage. I worked Majorly in two plants i:e
BACKCOATING and CHROMOJET where RUGS are printed wIth different
design and back-coated achieving different quality and brands. At OE STANLEY I
learnt about House wiring (surface and condict) counting or wire in a stator, poles
of electrical connections, rewinding of electrical motors, 3 phase motor, motor
with centrifugal switch, Motor with break pad, and house hold machines (washing
machine, pumping machine, drilling machine, electric blender , electric fan,hot
plate, electric iron, electric jug, kettle e.t.c). These sections have exposed me to
safety precautions rules and regulations electrical connections and various
technical analysis most importantly It describe the activities on my experience
gained during the period of the training also I started the problem encounter and
give solution for improvement of the scheme

2.1 DEPARTMENT POSTED DURING SIWES
During my SIWES program I extracted experience form two major department
which
include
-Mechanical Department
-Electrical Department
At O.E
STANLY ELETRICALS: we deal with rewinding home/industrial electrical
motor eletromechnical appliances such as electric fan, hot plate, diesel engine
motors washing machine e.t.c repair of all related machine are done and most
importantly house/industrial wiring
At LUCKY FIBRE PLC I was posted to different departments which include
mechanical department and electrical department where we deal with BRAZI
WOOL production machine CHROMOJET production machine PRINTING
HEAD machine lastly, BACK COATING machine
2.1.1PRINT HEAD MACHINE
13
COMMON FAULT IN CHROMOJET
1)Defect pneumatic hose: cause by ageing of hose. Defected hose is replaced
with new one of same type and size
2)Low chemical supply: The non return valve is blocked and need
servicing...the non return valve is removed and blown with hot water and high
pressure air to
3)Dry chain drive: chain track are lubricated for effective performance
4) Burnt electric motor: Replace with spare...Faulty Electric motor are given
to contractors for rewinding
5) Rough cutting: This fault is generated from the the stitching machine
joining Rugs at both ends to create continuous filament through the roller
2.1.2 ASSIGNMENT GIVEN IN DEPARTMENT POSTE
As a technician various obligations was assigned in every plant it is expected
without delay to provide remedy to every faulty machine during production
processes, servicing of mechanical parts during and after production I also detect
faults, remedy before next use for production process For examplethe non return
valve of the printing head machineis service immediately after use to prevent
14
blockage by latex fluids, scraping of carbon compound from the mixing head it in
the foaming machine E.t.c
2.2.1 FOAMING MACHINE
COMMON FAULT IN A FOAMING MACHINE
15
1)low pressure of compound; This is caused by faulty pump...pump is dismantled
and waste removed fixed ok or foaming machine pump is changed if worn out
(stator and motor)
2)Inadequate compound mixture (application); caused By faulty mixer head the
stator and motor are dismantled if still ok for use, carbon compound are scraped
from the component to effect proper mixing
3)Every Saturday/when machine is to be idle for production the mixing head is
service to avoid compound blockage
CHAPTER THREE
3.1.0 DETAILS EXPERIENCE GAINED IN ALL DEPARTMENT POSTED
OE STANLEY ELECTRICALS
Working principles of electromechanical machines are made known to me when I
observed my SIWES at all STANLY
I learned rapidly as I can fix any fault from pumping machine electric fan hot plate
electric jug rewinding of all kinds of electrical motor partial knowledge of 3phase
motor
I learn how electromagnetic induction is used for rotation of Motor but fixing of
coils in the slot of statorin some cases onrotor or both we have 4 type of rotor they
include:
16
Cage rotor;surface pump 3phase motor
Slipping rotor; generator motor,
Comunicator rotor;grinding machine
Wound rotor;3 face slip ring-motor
3.1.1 HOW AN ELECTRIC MOTOR WORKS
As the coils are energized, the magnetic field they produce between them induces
an electric current in the rotor. This current produces its own magnetic field that
tries to oppose the thing that caused it (the magnetic field from the outer coils).
The interaction between the two fields causes the rotor to turn. A higher turn
number means more wire and thus more resistance, resulting in a slower motor. So
turns with a lower number means a faster motor. The turn rating is inversely
proportional to the power generated by the motor.
3.1.2 LUCKY FIBER PLC
Mechanical component on hydraulics and pneumaticsare used in the mechanical
production transformation in plant production of fiber products.I was posted
majorly to BACK COATING AND CHROMOJET Lucky Fables PLC produce
products like;BRAZL WOOL(weavonof different brands),NOSE MASK,RUGS
AND CARPET.e.t.c
3.1.3 CHROMOJET PLANT
Plane Woven rugsare transported with a vehicle to CHROMOJET plant offloaded
by forklift to the production sector where an unwinding machine moves it across
the printing head where design are made, washer, and a heater held tight by a chain
pin trackat both endsinto the accumulator and winded for BACKCOATING
17
3.1.4
BACKCOATING
PLANT
Printed/plains Rugs
are move to this
plant with a forklift
and unwinding machine moves it through rollers to the chemical compound
application where thisCompound is spread evenly at the back of the RUG to
increase the texture and make it firm tufted yarn are added to the compound to
increase wet strength of the capent through a dryer for solidification with a pin
chain track at both rough ends of carpets these ends are cut off moved in a cross
roller to accumulator and uneven yarns are cut off with the aid of a sherding
machine and cut out for specific lenght for packing.

REMEDY
TO
COMMON
FAULTS
IN
CHROMOJET AND BACKCOATING PLANT
The following are some common fault and remedy in all department posted,
i. Air leakage
19
ii. Low compound pressure supply
iii. Defect pin robber
iv. Changing of all seal size varies
v. Sticking machine noven sewing
vi. Cutter
1. Defect pneumatic hose; The air leakage as cause by punctured pneumatic
those air pressure are transmitted through these those into pneumatic
cylinders and other components. It can be fixed by replacement of air hose
there are of different size and amount of pressure each can hold.
2. Low compound pressure supply; It is caused by the forming machine pump
the pump is dismantle and service ok for temporary use and later replaces by
new one
3. Defect pin rubber; Compound damage the pin rubber: defect ones are clean
and replace with pin rubber.
4. Oil seal leakage; changing of seal size We get all seal size and get it in the
company store to replace damage one.
5. Blunt cutting; The needle is replace if broken or the cutting blade storage or
replaced with new one.
Others include;
Dry chain drive
Defect pneumatic cylinder
Defect connector and transmitter
Shorten wheel wire brush
Defect lobe ,etc
Maintenance; lubrication; maintenance are done when plant is going to be
idle when there isn’t enough sale of production.
CHAPTER FOUR
4.1.0OBSERVATIONS IN SIWESPLACEMENTS RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICAL
20
4.1.1OBSERVATION
Pneumatic is mostly use in production process with minimum hydraulic systems,
Gear, belts and chain drive motor. Control unit in each plant has an automated
programmed Data at which every machine in each plant use in production process
OE STANLEY ELECTRICALS is own and control by an individual he manages
his company funds and rendering of service LUCKY FIBER PLC belongs to a
groups called TOLARAM
4.2.1 RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICAL
Production sector; as machine serialy moves material during production from one
plant to another with different program robotics machines programed for specific
function of each operation for application of chemical washing printing drying
cutting rough edge's etc As thought in class machine visions uses sensory receptors
to switch stages
Steam pressure is generated form a boiler house to various plant as learnt in spark
ignition it supply CHROMOJET for washing printed rugs and other applications
Pneumatic systems and it application was lecture in class and I get to use these
system operate it and make repairs as thought in automative pneumatic and
hydraulic make uses of pneumatic as major components using impact screwdriver,
air compressor, pneumatic cylinder of all kinds
At OE STANLEY I get to know the use of magnetic field and it's functionality in
respect to the numbers of turn increasing and reducing the speed of motor due to
magnetic flux generated in respect to voltage applied.I rewinds electrical motor
and repair house hold machineand installation of electrical motors of all kinds
21
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
At first I had issues with handling of tools both in luck fibre PLC and OE
STANLEY. production workers rough handle machine and call technician for my
repairs repair become difficult as maintenance is involved before repair
(BACKCOATING). My major changes was transportation I spend alots as I
encounter every day with #800 expenses with no payments from the company
I had issues with communication as staff are posted in weekly shift and also having
slightly language barriers communicating and partial understanding
RECOMMENDATION I therefore recommended that for every course in any
area of study, industrial training should be enforced on all students for effective
usage of their knowledge. Institution should create a platform and aweaness of
industry to accept IT student and aid alternative placement for student in and
outside the state
