Examples of SMART targets

I thought it a good idea to share some simple examples with you. The
first two are two I found online, the third is genuinely one I put together in
2012 inspired by the Olympics and genuinely missing participating in a
sport (knees to weak for football and back too sensitive for golf)
In this example, Person A's target is 'I want to be fit' and Person B's target is 'I want
to compete at the Paralympics'.

Person A Person B

I will attend a Para-swimming talent

S I will increase how much exercise I do
identification day

I will do an average of 60 minutes of I will swim the 50 m freestyle in under one

M
moderate intensity activity a day minute

I can see myself doing it/I'm going to do it My times are close to the selection
A
with a friend criteria/my coach and I agree

I can do it by walking daily and going to the

R I can do it by improving my technique
gym twice a week

I will achieve it by the end of this summer I will attend next year's talent identification
T
term day

When I was 49 I was an overweight ex-smoker who probably drank a few more units
a week than I should. I made a set of SMART Targets at the time, and here they are

S I will fitter on my 50th birthday than I was on my 40th

M I will enter the London 100 ride and ride 3000 miles a year

A I will raise money for Charity and promote this online to force me
train
R I can use my commute for training and join a club

T I will achieve this by July 2013
